What to upgrade with?
I have a 2000 z28 vert with 27k on it. It's all stock except for a set of rims/tires. I just took the car out of storage since 2005. Primed everything up, etc., and it runs great.
Now that I have it out, my father-in-law wants me to bring it to a show and go over in about a month. He has an SRT8 Hemi Charger and wants to race me. I know I'm in trouble. I had intentions on doing mods to this car early on, but never did any as I moved and had to put it away for a while. I planned on just leaving it stock for a cruiser, but my racing background won't let me go down to a 4200 lb auto car with a guy who brags about his 30 extra horsepower from his CAI.
I have read what seems like a million posts here, but I can't seem to find exactly what I a was looking for. I want to put CAI and lid on it, a set of long tubes and electric cutouts. I think I'll go with the FTRA for the CAI and pacesetter headers - I'd love a set of kooks, but just can't justify double the price when the hood only gets opened if I check the oil. The questions I have are: 1)Are the pacesetter headers emissions compliant? I want all the emissions hooked up. 2) I'd like to put the cutouts right off the headers and have a y-pipe that hooks up to the stock exhaust (I'll order 02 extensions as well). Does anyone make a y-pipe for this or is it something I'll need to have fabbed up? 3) Will I need a tune for this? I am assuming this is common enough configuration where I could do a mail order tune. 4) Should I be putting subframe connectors or am I ok with the factory convert bracing?
If anyone has a setup like this or something similar, please PM me as I'd love to get some real world advice. It seems like every configuration, every brand, etc. has it fans and detractors.
TIA to anyone who helps!

IMO, get a SLP lid, and yes you can get the Pacesetter headers w/emissions provisions.
pm sent.
A tune would be a plus!
Also, If your car has an A4 trans a High stall converter would be a big plus!

Get some 275/40/17 Nittos for the stock wheels
All you need to do to the LS1 is a set of Longtube headers (Pacesetter LTs are great for power/cost), exhaust (or cutouts) -- personally, I'd go with a true-dual with X-pipe setup ---, and a LID, and you'll beat most cars on the street.
