What scan tool or code pullers for OBD2?

What scan tools or code pullers is everyone using for their LS1 OBD2?
I have a laptop if anyone knows of some free daig software, I have the cables already too to connect to the ALDL.
Otherwise, I see some cheap hand held CEN-TEX code pullers for OBD2 for about $40.
the LS1 is throwing a code, instead of taking it to Autozone and having them pull the code I'd just soon buy one or get something for my laptop as I'll probably end up with another LSx car soon..
Thanks

Thanks, I downloaded the "Complete Free working copy of VE1 OBD2-browser" from there.
I don't have the cable with me right now to try it out....is that all I need? That website isn't very clear on whats needed since so many apps are covered on it.
The sw I downloaded seems to execute, it just doesn't find an OBD2 interface anywhere since the PC isn't connected to anything yet.

Nope, would not connect using the cable I already had with the OBD2 connector on it that I use for the '95....

Was it the VPW $122 package with the cable that you have???
I did find that AKMCables cable is not compatible with Alex's program above...so I do indeed need to get the cable it appears.
Thanks!

damn...bummer for you...would have been nice if it worked out.

yeah that $122 package is what i got, and i also had to get a port connetion that links the serial port style plug to a USB for my computer. may not be needed on yours. i would contact the company. i ended up having to buy them separate, so 2x the shipping in order for the cable to work.

Cool thanks. Did your computer not have the female serial plug on the back?? All of my laptops have one and thats the serial port I use for the DataMAster and Tunercat for my OBD1 cars.

I guess if I knew which serial wires to wire into the OBD2 plug connectors I could rewire the one I have or make a cable for about $15 and some time..there's not but 9-wires and the different software makers just change the wire order around in the plug to make their's "proprietary" and require you to buy their cable.
