Well i'd say the '01-'02 because they have some ls6 goodies but those are going to cost much more than a say '98-'99 so why not spend less on the'98-'99 opposed to the'01-'02's and mod the hell outta of the '98-'99 with the few grand you saved from not buying a newer car.....but hey thats just my logic

Performance wise the cars have little differences, like MISOMWS6 said the 01-02 got some LS6 parts so they would have a slight edge over other LS1 cars. But comparing Z28 to T/A isn't gonna make much of a difference.

Tell him to get a 2001 or 2002 Z28 or Formula with a M6. That's gonna be the most power and least weight so therefore the fastest LS1 unmodded.

If he can scrape up $250 then he can get a Dynomouth exhaust and airlid. That's minimal dollars and he would gain about 15-20 RWHP and the car will sound so much meaner. Not as good as a LT1 but much better then stock. Just something for him to think about.

But why spend say 3grand more on an '01-'02 and maybe see high 12's with a couple of little mods when he could pickup a '98-'99 and spend the money saved to buy the LS6 intake, lid, cat-back, LT's, cam with springs, hardend pushrods and TI retainers, shifter or stall and flirt with 11's Let's just say i'm learning from my mistakes
