What I need to get to 12.5 or lower
What I need to get to 12.5 or lower
Well I know what I need to do to get there, I see all of the pat websites, but is there any one or two cheap things that I can do to get me there quick? Me and some buddies are going to the track in two weeks. My current mods and time are in my sig, I also just straight piped my cats and have yet to take it down the track.
Hmm, 7/10's...what are your short times? I'd say some drag radials and at least a 50-75 shot of nitrous. Not sure what gutting the cat's gained you...maybe a 10th or two.
Although not 'cheap' it'll be your best bang for the buck.

1) drive the car better and run 12.9 or 12.8 on normal radials..a 13.2 shifting at only 5000/5400/5400 is really good.
2) put some drag radials on and get some 1.8s and maybe 1.7s= mid 12s at 110 mph. Go when the weather is good (cool and dry) and shoot for 12.5 or lower.

Going from 13.7's to 13.0 is a lot easier than going from 13.0 to 12.5 if you aren;t going to run a bottle. Slap some drag radials and 3.73's on and you may get close. Otherwise you are looking at at least a Cam in my opinion.
In 2 weeks .. probably not a lot you can do .. the cats might get you a tenth. I didn't see cut out ... maybe another tenth.
Then tires ... and hope you're a good enough driver to get you 60s' down another tenth .. that might net you 2 tenths at the top ... but probably close to it ... and pray your 10 bolt hangs together ... Also pull the front sway bar that will also help your 60's as well as losing a little weight
Drop you washer resevoir and the shroud underneath ... that'll get more air to the FIPK and possibly get you another tenth.
Put you car on a diet ... strip the interior .. seats, carpeting, door panels, air bags, stero, spare, jack, console, dash .. you get the idea ... if you can get 300-400 lbs out of the car that will be good for 2-4 tenths ...
Last pray for cool weather ... but that cuts both ways ... your buddies will also benifit ..
Good Luck

You guys did notice this thread, didn't you?
He's not even approaching redline when he's shifting gears. That's a few tenths right there, don't ya think? LOL.

Oh I don't know about a few tenths. A few tenths can be very hard to pick up. Not too say you are wrong but you are asking a lot to squeeze out 2 tenths with an extra 500 RPM. May get it, may be enough out of the powerband at 5800 to offset any gains.
If he's shifting that low, I would also presume he's not power shifting either ... between the two - power shifting and extending his shifts - maybe just more than a tenth.
But getting that and squeezing out everything else presumes that he's a pretty good driver ... based on that post, I would say he's relatively new and seat time is mod ... one persons 13.2 is another persons 12.8 in the same car, on the same track and on the same day ...

Why would you think that shifting at 5800 rpm would place someone enough outside the powerband to offset any gains? I disagree. These cars do not have Tuned Port 5.7s. You're not wasting your time above the power peak. In fact, if you don't go well past the peak, the RPM drop too low when you shift gears.
It's about AVERAGE HP to the wheels. I had some success shifting where the red on the tach started...6000 rpm...(I wonder why they chose to start it there..hmmm)
Well I shift at those rpm's because I was told a long time ago in the drag racing section of this board that the ls1 peaks at 5200 so shifting after that is pointless and I shift out of first at 5000 because anything after that spins the hell out of the tires. Im not denying that I could improve, the 13.2 was only my third time at the track. My first and second time I was shifting at higher rpms, lower rpms and both and could only pull off a 13.7. And shifting where I did got me a 1.99 60' time, and from what I see thats not to shabby.

I shift around 5800-6100 (stock tach is slow, so I never know exactly) and except for a lid, my car is basically stock. Also, shifting would have nothing to do with your 60' time..........that would be your launch technique, but yeah, it's pretty good. Don't change that, just hold your shifts longer.
