what is the HP rating for LS1???

I've searched and read that an LS1 is rated at 305 but actually puts out 345hp.
My question is does it matter whether it is a z28, ss or not?
I'm looking to buy a 2000 LS1 from a camaro that isn't an ss or z28- what are the differences from the z28 or ss LS1s??
THanks guys

hp wise the main difference between the SS and Z28 is exhaust.

That 345hp number your refering to is flywheel hp, most F-body LS1s dyno around 290-300rwhp which would be somewhere around 345hp at the flywheel.

What are you getting, B4C (cop camaro)?

Don't know the guy just said that it was from a camaro but not a z28 or ss. Sounds like you're saying that camaros didn't come with an LS1 unless they were z28 or ss.

If so how do I tell whether it is an LS1?- did they make V8s that weren't LS1s?

The Camaros offered through the dealership were only Z28s and SSs. However often B4Cs (Camaros ordered to be cop cars) are sold by the government to people.

On the inside of the drivers door there will be a list of RPO codes, look for the codes LS1 and B4C.

LS1=well duh...
B4C=it was a cop car

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think the B4Cs came with the Z28 RPO. In other words the B4C basically is a Z28 without the badging.

All the 98-02 V8s are LS1s.

Question 6-9: How much horsepower does the LS1 really have?

Answer: GM's 305hp rating is extremely conservative, they didn't want the LS1 f-body to steal any of the Vette's thunder, however it's commonly known that the F-body's LS1 makes pretty much the same 345hp as the Vette's. They generally put out the same hp to the rear wheels.

If its a 2001 V8 from a F-body then it is an LS1 with an LS6 intake manifold. If its a LS6 it would have been from the Z06 Vette.

If it's a 2001 LS6 engine, then it would have come from a Corvette, and in 2001 they were 385 HP. 2002 + LS6 engines are 405 HP.

Likely that engine is just an LS1 if it came from a Camaro, which is 350~ish HP.

Just FYI, ALL '93 - '97 Z28's, SS's, Trans-Ams, Formulas and WS6's (V8 F-bodies) had the LT1 350, and then all '98 - '02 V8 F-bodies had the LS1. There was no other option. It's not uncommon though for someone to have swapped an LS1 in place of an LT1, or an LS6 in place of an LS1.

READ THIS THREAD. It discusses LS1 vs LS6 block, so you should be able to figure it out from there.
