Hey guys,


I have a 2000 Z28 6 speed with the following mods, flowmaster catback, K&N FIPK, slp throttle body, Z06 MAF, Superchips programmer, TB bypass. A guy at work has a stock 1996 LT4 corvette 6 speed, he wants to run me but i dont want to look like a moron and get whooped. What else do i need? Thanks

 

Your car should be able to run with with his as it sits.
The LT4, and LS1 made similar power, stock vs. stock.

Assuming you can drive better than him, I see no reason who you should lose.

 

You wouldn't get whooped.. He may take you off the line, but after that you should pull away easily

 

gears or dope. then you'll kill him. work on your driving and you should be able to take him as is.

 

It ought to be a damn good race! The LT4 Vettes scoot. I'd probably change some mods around before the race, tho. I'd try to sell the programmer, MAF and Flowmaster and see if I could scrape up enough for a used set of MACs, a cut-out and tuning. See if you can borrow some sticky tires, too. Don't fret on the LT4. Your window sticker may have indeed said 305hp but these engines are identical to their 350hp corvette counterparts.

Wheras the lt4 only made 330hp. You already have a 20hp advantage there, and right around 20-25 hp advantage BEFORE your mods to the wheels, looks like you've got some decent ones so maybe 30-35hp advantage over him. Run from both a roll and a dead stop, you should beat him handily each time if you know how to drive.

 

THe LT4s were underrated too guys...most of them dyno in the high 290's low 300s. That puts them closer to 350hp too.

And don't forget vettes are about 300 lbs lighter.

Yep. The LT4s were underrated, are lighter than a LS1 F-body and have some pretty good size rubber out back. Stock vs. stock it's a toss-up.

 

That is true. I've heard they can run very low 13's high 12's stock as well. will be a very good race as long as the lt4 is in good running shape.

 

Get some M/T drag radials and run from a dig, launch the crap out of it. Or spray it

 

To be honest your mods aren't worth much power so I think it should be close no matter what happens. His weight may be the outcome.

 

get rid of your frickin flowmaster its slowing you down

 

The fastest stock LT4's ive seen have been in the 12.8-9 area around 108-110 traps...W/ a good amount of mods on a a4 or a strong running 6sd shouldnt be too far off..Id say you have enough.
