What to do with my LS1 (HELP)

I have a 98 SS Camaro (LS1) it has over 250k miles on it, It has a bad lifter that needs replaced, but with this many miles on it is it really worth fixing? I dont know how long I want to keep the car, but it might keep it around for a while or I might trade it for a 2010 sometime next year. I dont know yet, it kinda depend on all of this.

If i do fix it what are some other things I should change out while I am in there if i do end up keeping the car around?

Is it is bad on the engine to just keep driving it how it is?

I really don't know what to do with the car at this point, I just don't want to keep putting money in it if something else with be likely to go wrong with this many miles. I just want to know what would you do?

Also I seen on another site someone talking about using Rislone High Performance Oil Treatment to help the noise of it, but I have never been big into additives. Has anyone ever used this and has it worked?

Oil additives may reduce the noise some, but the root cause of the failure is still present. Those additives often create other problems. They work great if you want to quiet the noise to unload the car on someone else.

On the LS1 you have to remove both cylinder heads to replace the lifters. That means you'll need head gaskets, head bolts, oil and coolant. You'll probably have broken exhaust manifold bolts and/or studs.

At 250K miles, I'm sure more than just the lifters need attention. Spark plug replacement is a given, but other things like worn out valve springs and leaking valve seals are likely. They're easy to do with the heads off, but they'll triple the cost of the parts bill.

What you need to decide is if it's worth throwing well over $1000 into an engine that has 250K miles. You could have a more serious problem soon after the repair. What then? If you were able to do the work yourself the answer would be easy.

Finally, how do you know it's a bad lifter? It could be something simple like a failed rocker arm trunion...

Edit: did you need 2 threads for this?

I took it to a shop and they told me it was a bad lifter, do you know of a way I can test this for sure to know cuz they did not seem like they knew for a 100%

I didnt really need a new thread, I just didnt get anyone looking at it and I kinda change some of the information in this and the title, just try to get help.

well, if one lifter is worn out and failing, then comon sense dictates that they all are probably worn out, and who konws what else is. So I'd say replace the whole motor or dump the car for a new one.

I agree and why put $1100 into a motor with 250k miles. Buy a used motor with half the miles for maybe the same price.

I'm not saying that you will spend $1100. You did in your other thread. Please only create one thread.
