What do i need to run 12's
What do i need to run 12's
hey. Im not new here I just havent been on in about 6months since i totaled my 1997 camaro ss lt4. I just recently bought a 1998 camaro z28 with 46009miles on the odometer 7,000.00 localy. Its feels just as fast as my lt4 did but i want to outrun a 03 cobra. all i have left is $3000 and i wanted to know if anybody has any good ideas how i can hit 12's
If your car is an automatic it is very simple. A torque convertor in the 3500 stall range and a set of ET Streets and you're running 12s.
If your car is an M6 the just a set of ET Steets will probably put you in the 12s assuming you can drive.
A lid and a low restriction exhaust system will be the first two parts to help you reach your goal with either transmission.

I don't know what mods you have but this should get you pretty close!
TSP lid, TCI 3500 Stall, Perma-Cool tranny cooler, Pacesetter LT, ORY, O2 extensions, BMR Subframe connectors, BMR relocation brackets all for $1,399.86(not including shipping or taxes). We are running a special on the headers...free shipping.
The only other thing you will need will be some tires to hook up with!
Let us know if there is anything we can do for you!
Thanks!
Brian

To keep up with an 03 Cobra will be quite easy. Bolt-ons as everyone said will easily allow you to "keep up" or nose out in front of them. To really beat them with a noticable difference you will need more than a Lid, cat-back and tires. Some LT's, an SSRA system and gear/ stall converter will easily enough to beat one. Big Z28's idea is pretty good, just add a SSRA induction unit.
Don't expect to beat a moded one though. I know a guy that put a pulley, tires and tuning was running high 11's.

My son has a 99 Z28 with 85,000 miles on it which is a high eleven second car. His only mods are:
a used G5 cam $250
a set of Comp 918 springs $200
a used lid $75
long tube headers $400
a used LS6 intake $75
a cheap set of true duals $180
a used 3800 stall convertor $300
_____
total parts $1480
This could easily be duplicated, including the car, for about $10,000 and you would have a car that can outrun modified Cobras on the street.

get a lid, headers, catback,TC if youre an auto.also consider an ls6 or an LSX intake and some type of sticky tire.if you have any money leftover you can get pullies and some type of ramair kit.if youre an m6 get gears.
full bolt on ls1s will beat stock and lightly modded cobras soundly.saying cobras are hard to beat once modded is nonsense.theres plenty of ls1s around thatll beat 03 cobras.you just have to have the right mods done.

The cobras arent even that fast, over the summer 2 03's were runnin 12.8's with quite a few bolt ons. Then I went on a website called gmvsford.com, its a messege board too, and asked in the 03 cobra section what their stock times were and most said 13.2 - 13.3, only one said 12.9. I ran 13.7 totally stock and my first time at a track in my life, and a best of 13.2 with very simple mods, mostly free, so I would say that are cars take better to mods then the cobras. But like with any car it all depends on the person behind the wheel.
