What do I need to beat a 97 Cobra?
A guy I know is buying a 97 Cobra. The car has 4.10 gears, flowmaster exhaust, and a K & N. He says the car can beat me, and I don't know too much about Cobras.
My car will soon have the following mods: Whisper Lid, Exhaust Cutout, EGR mod, NGK tr55 plugs, and MAYBE 3.42 gears.
Most of my races are from 20-65 mph. Do you think my mods will be able to handle the Cobra?
All replies welcomed.
EDIT: The guy's Cobra is a manual car.

i also dont know much about that year cobra.... however i think with your planned mods it would be a very close race, winner probly being the better driver. Is he a manual or auto? One more mod that you might want to consider is a torque converter somewhere down the road. That will make the biggest improvement on an A4. What year car do you have?

If you're gonna go gears with an auto 3.73's will give you a better gain and your rpms will still be low enough on the highway for comfortable cruising. A 97 Cobra with 4.10 gears and bolt ons is a tough car, probably go righ at 13 or a smidge under on a really good day. As long as you have gears you should own him, but make sure you take it above 115 or so to take advantage of all that top end. A friend of mine has a 97 Z28 with a couple of bolt ons but with the 2.73 rear and he raced a 99 cobra with 4.10's and bolt ons and he got raped, probably 6 carlengths to 95. But he has an LT1 and after 60 the LS1's own a stock LT1.

Hmm.... I'd say you'd just need to show up.
Actually, I've raced a 98 with the same exact mods plus a steeda timing adjuster (something like that) and we were nose to nose until 50, then I walked him by about 2 cars up to 90.
You should not have a problem.

If you can get him to go from a stop, you shouldn't have too much of a problem, assuming he's running on street tires. If you go from a 20-30mph roll, where he can start in 2nd, then it could be a pretty close. He wouldn't stand a chance if he had the stock 3.27s...but he doesn't so good luck.
Yes, all Cobras are manuals (from the factory).

Dont worry about it. You will have no problem with this guy. I have a friend who has a 97 cobra with 4.10 and nitto and he can only run mid 13s so I dont think your friend with the cobra will run much faster.
well u actually don't need anything besides a stock ls-1 cobras r real slow remember they're FORD and ne 1 who knows ne thing knows that that can't be good come on i think in it has had more engine options than ne other vehiclr around can't they think of a nice engine that they can keep around awhile much like the 350 and now they finally come out w/ something that can take an f-body and the f-body isn't even arond to yet again put ford and the mustang in it's place again.
Ok.. here is what you need..
new Cam, ported heads, LT headers, LS6 intake, screw the exhaust just let it come out the headers, torque converter, 3.73 gears, 9psi supercharger, set of 335 tires on the back.. and enough gas to get through the race.. LOL
Actually since his will have to be a 5spd your car just the way it is should probably beat him unless he is just a wicked driver and knows how to drive the ***** off that car. Your only real concern should be the low speeds since he has 4.10's. But like someone said above.. if he is starting from a stop that might not be a problem because he might not be able to hook up anyway if he is running stock tires. Best way to find out though is swallow the pride and race him. If he beats you tell him to give you a month and try his luck again.. then see the above mentioned parts.. hehe.
