i have read the boards for a few weeks and have learned much, i hear people upgrading their stock SLP systems. i Hvae a 2000 ss with the 2 + 2 outlet. i dont know what the sustems is called but its all SS minor polish with 4 tips. what system is that and is it anygood? what are these cat backs you talk about?

 

a cat back is as it states..
its a system consisting of an intermediate pipe and a muffler then tips..

This is connected from the y-pipe but on the older units, there was only one catalytic converter so they would connect there... hence Cat- back...

Intermediate pipe goes to an over the axle pipe then to the muffler then to the exit pipes/tips...

The cat back system you most likely have on your ss is the 335 horsepower option. I had that same exhaust on my 2001 ss but I bought a loudmouth and love it.
