Exclamation what cam do you guys recommend

I am debating right now on what to go with. thing is that there is no where for me to take my car for a tune around here where I live. I am ready to do the cam upgrade but want something that is going to give me that lopey sound and maximum power without having to touch the pcm. Is this possible. The plan was to go to TSP but a death in the family combined with other money issues are preventing me at this time. I am really interested in the cheatr cam.

You could do a Z06 cam and not have to retune. You'd make good power with all the bolt-ons as well. I mean, a stock Z06 with manifolds puts 360-370 @ the wheels.

BUT this cam wouldn't have a lopey idle.

I'm looking at the MTI B1 221/221 on a 114, and I don't really plan to reprogram for it any time soon.

The Futural F13 cam is supposed to be lopey but run with a stock idle

But I would get as big as you can, and tune it. A big healthy sounding cam isn't going to do you enough speed wise with a stock tune

Re: what cam do you guys recommend

A Z06 may make those number but they also have Z06 heads. A cam only LS1 will fall short.

A good rule of thumb, if you can't afford to get a tune, you can't afford to get a cam. A tune makes all the difference in the world. Especially when you go large.

I'd suggest getting on LS1tech and reading the cam guide thread done by JRP. It'll be sticked. Do some research and make your own mind up as to which cam you want. You need to know more of what you want besides just a lope and max hp.

Max hp isn't always the best bet either. You can have a cam with great max hp but have a horrible curve and someone w/20 less max hp and a great curve is going to own you and be more streetable.

a place like TSP can give you a mail order tune for any of their cams if you give them a list of your mods.

they are not always gonna be as good as a dyno tune, but since they are the makers of the cam, they can ususally nail it pretty close.

give them a call

I agree but it is not the money that I am worried about. Its not having anyone around to get a tune from. I never thought about the mail in tuning. Good job guys. I guess its going to be the GS3 cam.

Re: what cam do you guys recommend

I just put a TR230/224 in this weekend........

WOW is all I have to say. ITs a 98Z28 M6, LT's, oryp, Lid, stock TB, no LS6 intake. Tuned by Madz28 when the car was stock and now runs fine with the cam. ITs actually rich, but it is an animal, sounds great to. Very little cam surge that would go away with a dyno tune.

Re: what cam do you guys recommend

I just got done installing the Texas Speed 233/239 with the mods in my sig, and the mail order tune from tsp. I havent been able to drive the car more than a few miles because my catback isnt on yet and i was cruising with open headers . I dont know tons about cams, but i do know mine is pretty agressive. at idle it sounds like a burping nightmare monster, and its sweeeeet! At higher RPM's, you dont notice the lobiness, you only hear it at idle. so when you say you want lobiness with a stock idle, i dont know how that can be done or if i just understood you. Anyway, as far as ive driven the car with the 3.42s (get it back tomorow totally finished) i felt a LARGE power gain. When i go from a 3k roll the front suspension starts to play out upwards from the squat noticibly, and it did not very much before. Im no expert, just telling you what i have and what i have observed so far. If you have any other questions about how the car behaves after i get it tomorow, just shoot me a message.

6spdpewterz- Give us a call! We'll help you get into the cam that's right for you. And Jason can even get you a mail order tune for it. He's a great tuner and should have NO problems tuning your cam. We've had a few guys drive in from El Paso for cam swaps and dyno tunes. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you!

I am an idiot, I meant the MS3. Parts are ordered and should be getting them on Friday or Monday. I ordered the MS3 package plus the LS6 oil pump and new timing chain. PCM will be sent in for tuning this week as well. Thank you guys for the advice.

All of Futral's cams are beasts as shown in sig. If I had the underdrive pulley and an aftermarket TB and through the F-body drivetrain, it would be over 430rwhp on cam-only.

You should always tune the PCM after a cam change if you want the best idle, drivability, and power.

Kraest...

what is the spec info on the F15 cam? the website only lists up to the F14

sometimes i wish i had gone with the FMS cam instead of the TSP Torquer that i have. i was really hoping for 400rwhp with my setup. although i think i'm in the 390s now...i think with more tuning it would break my goal.

although i have been warned that the FMS cams are so aggressive that they wear out springs quick
