I hear everybody talking about Pacesetter LT headers. My question is why are they so cheap compared to the SLP and Dynatech? Are the pacesetter headers stainless steel?

the cheaper headers are mild steel, and the welds are not very pretty.

SLP, Kooks and QTP are all stainless. much more $$ material.

the welds on my Flowtechs were far from pretty, but for the cost who cares. how many people crawl under the car to inspect the neatness of the welds onthe collectors?

 

The main thing I'm worried about is that I'm going to be keeping my car for a long time. I have such low miles on it. I don't want the headers to start rusting.

 

You really don't want to save a few bucks on something less than stainless. The appearance of the welds is of little consequence under the car, it's the quality of the welds that matters. The environment under the car requires stainless, IMHO. It costs more, but it's much more suitable for the job.

My Dynatechs are well built, fit and work very good.

 

I've been told that the SLP LT, headers will last a LONG time, Stainless steel and dual coatings... but, they hang low and the PASS side header is a little more tricky to get in there. There are other headers out there that are just as good and cheaper...

All headers perform just about the same.... Kind of like after market air filters, they're all about the same..

 

Suprised no one mentioned Hooker LT coated.....

Another vote for the coated Hookers...

 

all those concerned about non-stainless headers (even coated steel ones) rusting, look at your stock exhaust manifolds. After about 20k or so they get so covered with reddish/purplish rust that you can't see what the original color was. They still hold up well though. Surface rust will just happen, it's a byproduct of heat in non-stainless steel. Then integrity of the header should never degrade for all intents and purposes, and if it does, there was something wrong with the header.

 

Hopefully I don't change the subject, but does the engine have to be taken out to install long tubes on a 98-02? I'd go with KOOKS Stainless!

 

No, not at all. But the car does need to be lifted as all longtubes headers have go on from UNDER the car.
