Cool Went to track.. Tested Stealth Airlid..

well.. where to start..
I ran 13.4's all night.. pretty much litterally..
I still need to learn how to launch on Nittos.
2.0 was my fastest 60'.
I ran a couple times without the Stealth as I didnt drive up there with it.. I can now teach the world how to install this thing in under 20 min without rushing.. hehe

The car weighed in at 3692 with more than 3/4 tank of gas. Nothing removed and my 200lbs in the car.
I ran a 13.46 at 105.44 (60' of 2.096) with just Nittos at 20psi.
I then made another pass but botched it up missing a shift... It was on mark to be at least a 13.4..

I then parked and installed the Stealth airlid. Again, that is the only thing I did. Install the unit then start making passes.
The following are my times:60'/ET/MPH
2.130/13.405/106.05
2.152/13.458/106.46
2.194/13.532/106.19
2.062/13.286/106.81
2.143/13.449/106.35
2.206/13.562/106.45
2.067/13.371/106.19

From the times here and my performance last friday.. I will conclude that for me, the Stealth did not benefit my car much if any at all. The only possible gain would be less than 1mph as my timeslips from Friday are showing an average of 105.5575 while last nights average is 106.357. Humidity was lower last night and that may account for it.

I guess I am a little disappointed as I was hopeing to see more out of the Air box for $250.

Feel free to ask any questions as I still have to write up the review.. I wont post it until I make another trip and try out the MTI lid.

looks like you picked up about 10hp give or take.. did you expect more from an air box? or am i missing something?

10hp?
where do you see that? there was no real MPH change or ET change.. and its the "Stealth" so its like the free ram air plus lid..

So yes I was expecting to see something.. heheh

My dyno tests show there is less than 10rwhp gain on the unit but since it was no longer stationary, I wanted to see what difference it would make.

well, just like running a ram air car on the dyno, once the hood is closed there is a difference between dyno and 1/4.

Allowing for the variance in an M6 ... I would say that the Stealth gave you and improvment over the standard lid ... about in line with what your dyno testing indicated.

I do think that there is a fallacy though in the Stealth ... everyone looks at the larger surface area of the huge filter and presumes that's where the improvment comes from ... the reality is the Stealth is going to be more efficient over a lid as the improvment is over the air contrictions are improved over the lid ... ie the slot size and the FRA area.

The FRA is constricted by the length and the width avalilable coming up from the radiator flow path ... the Stealth extends that path ... what? A couple of inches in each direction? In context of total air flow available this is an improvement, but not overly significant.

I don't know how big the slot is on the Stealth, but again, maybe a couple of inches longer and 1/4" taller.

I agree your final analysis though ... the Stealth is really only capable of giving minimal improvement over a lid with FRA and a washer raised airbox. For the price it just doesnt seem worth it ... if you're going to spend that kind of $$, better to go with a FIPK or Volant ...

Exactly what I was thinking... That it really didnt help at all.. Even a closed off aftermarket lid (no FRA) should perform similarly. I shall find that out on the next trip.

But the opening is much larger when you consider that my car is bone stock.. No mods.. not even any worthless free mods.. (meaning all of them IMO)... So stock, my cars filter is only open on the front and the area above the radiator and below the filter is still blocked off and not cut at all..

What I was thinking is that since it was greatly opened up compared to stock, that it would of made some more noticeable differnce.. like another full MPH or so.. (after all the car was recently waxed! hehe)

A solid 13.4 on any given day isnt too bad really but I know there is more that can come out of it.. With time I will get it out and get the short times where they should be.. That should make it a solid 13.1 car..

The Stealth has a HUGE K&N filter.. My car as stock is only using the paper filter..

I think if there were a paper filter large enough, it would help it out more..

I am not the only one that says paper outflows.. Other filter companies do too.. but they market on the fact that paper gets dirty and is not "reusable".
So when they say it outflows other filters its usually based over a period of time. But for me and some others out there.. We dont mind buying a new paper filter 2 times a year. Its not going to bankrupt us. It does flow more but it also allows more dirt in.. But if Chevy sent it out of the factory that way, well its good enough for me.. I still have my warranty. hehe

Holley, Accel, K&N and Amsoil will all flow about the same. They just argue on who will filter the most.
