Best Cat-Back/Header combo

I just bought my car a month ago and I am looking for my first mods which will include a cat-back and lid. I have heard some sound clips and like the LM and Corsa. For the price the LM sounds like a better choice but I have heard that once you put headers on it will be way too loud. Any suggestions on a cat-back that will sound great even after you put headers on? I dont want to buy something and then change it once i put headers on down the road. As for the lid, I have a 02 SS should I just go with a simple lid and K&N because i'm not sure a FTRA or FIPK will be beneficial at all with the factory ram air the ss comes with. Any suggestions are appreciated, Im a N00b when it comes to Camaros so please bear with me...

They're aren't any best combos, it just depends on what you like and what you think loud is. I have heard that LM with headers is very loud. I have Borla cat-back with adjustable plates and FLP headers with interchangeable high-flow cats and off-road pipes. If I have the ORP and wide-open Borla, it's way too raspy. I have the 3/4 (I think) Borla plate with the cats, and it's quiet at idle but screams at WOT. Your best bet is to search for sound clips to find what you like best. Have fun with your car, modding is very addictive!

The best catback with headers & ORY is the Hooker catback... It's a little quiet without headers, but really sounds awesome once you get them on...
Go here for a ton of sound clips:

good luck,

I agree, if you're gonna be gettin headers on it, go with Hooker. With LT's and the Hooker cat-back, it sounds sweet as hell!

Since I don't have headers, I will still suggest doing the Dynomouth exhaust, but get the 24219 Dynomax Bullet muffler (18"), because someone said that with Headers/or Aftermarket y-pipe and 24222 (12") Bullet will be too much rasp.. ratio411's site for info and soundclips of Dynomouth..

I just did the Dynomouth setup on my Z and it ran me $ 107 for muffler and 2 chrome tips from Jegs and $ 95 to install and make a Y-pipe out back to keep Dual Exhaust Look.. Great sound and I have heard that Hooker Headers are great for LS1 F-Bodys.. I wonder when Hedman will make some Super Comps for LS1 F-body... If you want to keep your stock tips then the muffler will run $ 37 for 24219... not a bad deal and will flow just as well as the LM...

LM and LT's are a bad combo...i have that right now and my Z sounds like a dump truck with glasspacks. I"m switching to Hooker catback as soon as I can.

IMO the best system right now is the Banks cat back system. It is like Half the price of a Borla and sounds incredible.Plus it is all stainless as well with a lifetime warranty.I was leaning towards a Borla ,but the sales guys talked me into trying the Banks system and I could not be more pleased..definately one to think about!

Do you have a website or sound file for the Banks cat-back?

Wink

Don't do headers and the LM unless you like loud and droning exhaust note. I love it for the WOT sound, but may put a bullet muffler in at some point.

There's an '02 SS in Orlando with just SLP long tubes and stock exhaust. It's got a pretty tame idle, but when he gets on it you can hear the thing roar from IN FRONT of the car. (But if low price is an issue, the SLP's are not cheap).

Depends on how loud you want it ... IMO Loudmouths by themselves are just too loud. Headers with a Loudmouth would be deafening
