Weird engine behaviour

Hi folks,
Hope that those F-bods are giving you all the fun that you need. I have a slight problem here and I was hoping you could help me out. Whenever I start up my 2002 Z28, I find that the engine does not respond when I pump on the gas (the car is stationary and in neutral)..it's like there is a delay..and the engine isn't responding to the pedal..the whole car shivers..and then after a few seconds..i'll let go of the pedal and of it's own accord, the engine revs up!!..and after that everything is back to normal...

This problem happens only when I start the car up..most of the times nowadays..

Any ideas? the service shop says it might be a computer problem...and I have given it to them for repair..but someone out there might have had this problem.

Thanks in advance for all the help
Aby Philip

Re: Weird engine behaviour

Thanks teke184,
But it happens sometimes and sometimes everything works fine from startup? Like today morning I never had any problem. That's what gets me confused..

Thanks
Aby

Re: Weird engine behaviour

It is very hard to help when people do not give info as to if the engine is stock or not and it so what mods.

The gas pedal should not even be used for starting.
Common causes, dirty MAF or throttle body, sticking IAC, weak coil, dirty fuel filter, fouled plug, or even the PCM calibration needs tuning.

Re: Weird engine behaviour

Possibly the TPS? Maybe the fuel pump is getting weak or the filter is a little clogged and it is starved for fuel at startup? Just a couple of guesses.

Re: Weird engine behaviour

Hi folks,
Thanks for the responses...I am sorry that I forgot to mention that my car is a stock..no mods done yet ,out of cash :-(
The service guy had mentioned that something was sticking in the carburettor (i thought we were on fuel injection) well he must have meant the throttle body because that is what I see on my repair bill. So they found it and I drove home happy.
But then guess what? the same problem happened again yesterday. I'll try asking them if they could check all the stuff that you folks had mentioned.

Thanks a lot

Re: Weird engine behaviour

Oh yes forgot to mention this.. I don't use the gas pedal to start the car...it's just that after starting it up..and the engine idles for sometime..I just rev it up a bit...to hear the sound ;-)...
just letting you know so that the causes of problems might be narrowed down.

Thanks again
