There's really not much wieght reduction you can do to a z28 and still have it street legal and or tearing it up. The best results I get at the track are on a near empty tank, take the spare and the jack out. Pretty much take any thing out of the car that you can without using any tools. Don't forget on the average every 100lbs is like a 1/10 in the 1/4. I know you might say to yourself, but what about the weight over the rear axle. Sure your 60 foot might be a little worse but you'll make up for it on the rest of your run. Plus there's less wear and tear on parts.

If Your tryin to built a race car sky's the limit. Get back to me if you want that info cause i've done that to.

Good luck.

Lightbulb Did someone say weight reduction?!?

There's PLENTY of things you can do to reduce weight! My car weighs only 2890 lbs right now and has the full interior minus the rear seats and belts. And this with a steel 6 point bolt-in roll cage, 12-bolt rearend, and a Wolfe Racecraft anti-rollbar!

Yes, my car is an extreme example and has many things done to it that you would probably never consider but even for a daily driven street car there are many things that can be done to reduce weight.

Here is a list of weight reduction items. Many are CRAZY hardcore racecar mods and many are things most folks would find perfectly acceptable in doing to their daily drivers. Pic and choose as YOU see fit...

Thumbs up

Thanks! I started making that list about two years ago I think. I'm still adding to it. It is a regular part of the drag racing forum at www.LS1Tech.com

The quick and easy ~100 pounds out of a daily driven 4th Gen is the following: Rear seats, passenger seat, floor mats, spare tire/jack, hatch cover, and any extra crap. You can get all that out of your car in less than 20 minutes and save a tenth right there. That's what I do everytime I go to the track...

Thats to funny colonel. thats a great list.
Not to undermine your list or nothing but they do make these things called tube frame chasis cars. And you could drive it on the street. Assuming you driven what ever is lft of your camaro on the street.

Thanks Mike

To look at my featherweight car the only odd things you would notice is the lack of rear seats, exhaust tips, and windsheild wipers. Other than that it has your normal slicks and skinnies which can of course be swapped out for normal wheels and tires in a matter of minutes.

...but no, I don't drive it on the street anymore. Not that I couldn't, I just have other cars for that.
