water in power steering

water in power steering
OK I have a question. I was looking to buying this 99 WS6 when I got there the guy said it had antifreeze in the power steering pump and power steering fluid in the radiator. My question is, is there a power steering cooler on these cars? If so is this a common problem and how much would it cost to fix (roughly). The reason is that besides this and the headlight motor being out the car is almost perfect and he only wants $3500.

Well, I checked the oil and it doesn't look milky and the car is running cool. SO I don't think is a head gasket and that doesn't explain why theres water in the power steering pump.

These cars have an optional power steering cooler in the upper radiator hose. It's an aluminum tube that runs diagonally across the radiator. It's probably broken internally and letting the fluids mix. You'd have to cal a dealer or search for the price.

Re: water in power steering
The power steering cooler is the aluminum tube in the upper radiator hose. It's right by the radiator. Just like Al described. It'll also have two lines from the power steering system running to it.
Mine started leaking oil into the radiator. GM wanted over $150 IIRC for the cooler. I just got an aftermarket heat sink type trans cooler and plumbed the PS lines into it. That was ~$60-75 for the cooler, fittings, and hose.

Now the problem was that I guess when I flushed the coolent I didn't get it all out because all the hoses I just replaced started to soften and swel I had to replace them again I got a stock z28 upper hose to completly bypass the cooler . I changed all the hoses when I did my cam heads swap the only thing that sucked was the heater hoses were $150
