Warranty Gold is a rip off and a joke!
Warranty Gold is a rip off and a joke!
For any that have it, you may have a better experience with it, I sure dont! This is the second time ive gotten jacked around so time to flame them!
Problem #1 - Alternator went out... it was a saturday afternoon and their claims dept was closed, but I needed it fixed otherwise I wasnt going anywhere... so they said pay for it and they will pay me back. Doing so this way they told me just to pay full retail instead of my usual discount with the dealership and I do... Bill was $460.00 for the alternator and labor. Fine and dandy it worked ok... So I call warranty gold monday and they tell me to fax it all over and they will notify me when they cut the check. I fax it over... Now Wednesday comes... no word yet so I call. They have no clue what im talking about and tell me to fax it over again... at this time im getting a little nervous because thats $460 I didnt have to spend in the first place so my account is getting a little dry... So I fax it all over again. Next day comes and my car payment comes out of my account... along with rent so now the account goes negative and overdrafts 8 small items (lunches etc) from the account. So on top of having no check from warranty gold my account is negative about 300 because of the overdraft fees. I have no money for food. I call warranty gold friday only to find out once again they have no idea what im talking about... and the person I need to speak to is not in but the fax is on her desk. At this point im furious because I have no money, and when my paycheck goes in friday its gonna get hacked by the overdraft fees. I leave a not so nice message for her... finally tuesday she calls back and swears the check is going out... a week later I recieve it but I pretty much paid for it anyways with the overdraft fees, so got screwed on that one!
Problem#2 - this one is currently going on and thats why im so mad right now... I didnt cancel the warranty because I knew I would need help down the line if the tranny or engine went out... and finally the tranny and rear end go down. I take it in 2 weeks ago to Steve at 1st performance for the tear down... no problems yet, tranny gets torn down ok and Steve calls in the claim. They insist they cant cover it over the phone and have to send out an inspector which will be there in 24-36 hours... funny how they told me when I bought the warranty that this never happens and they always just give a credit card over the phone... anyways I say fine, wont be long and I will have the car back...
1 day goes by, then 2, then 3... no inspector...
Finally Thursday the inspector shows up to look at it and leaves. Im pissed but happy he came so I can get the car fixed... But wait... its not covered yet, all he does is come to inspect the damage, doesnt really do anything.... I call Warranty Gold and speak to the claims dept, they tell me they are waiting for his pictures and once they come in they will decide if its covered or not. In todays world email is pretty quick and takes a few seconds, but I guess theirs takes a while... Im told "it will be decided by friday evening, call back later" So I call back later and they tell me they have the pics... I inform them I have no car and need a rental or the car needs to be fixed, its been 2 weeks without a car now. They tell me "go get a rental and we will reimburse you IF the car is covered"... so I think to myself I better not since I know how that went last time and I cant afford $30 a day if they say screw off.... As I expected no call by friday so I call back... they are closed... how convienient! Took over a week and still no answer. At this point im so pissed off I just want to cancel the warranty and pay myself... Now im at today, still no call from them, car is sitting in pieces, I still have no transportation and cant spend any money because of the chance they may not cover it.
Anyone else think this sounds like $2000 well spent? At this point I think they are worthless and wish I would have kept the money, it would have more than covered my repairs and been a lot less stress, plus I would have my car! Its taking 3-4 weeks to do a 2 day repair because they are either A) sitting on my money and collecting interest or B) just a typical warranty company... take your money fast with their 24 hour order line, then when it comes time to help you they turn around quick and close the doors. I will admit however their salesmen are very nice and helpful, I called my origional salesmen and he did try his hardest to try and get them to call me back, and their customer service is top notch for a customer service dept... but thei claims dept is worthless. People are nice just takes too long to get anything done.
Update... Talked to warranty gold today and they will NOT be covering my warranty... They said the damage done was there prior to the warranty... I guess these days you can drive around with no shift forks and a blown rear end? So my point aside they stated I was lying etc etc etc, so my mechanic calls over there flaming mad because they are also calling him a liar and stretching the story with lines such as "the shift fork had exploded under pressure and remains were all over the tranny pan". My mechanic called and stated that the shift fork plastic piece, which commonly goes out was broken... they called him a liar and stood their ground. I kindly said give me my money back or I will see you in court... thats where it ended. They now want 6-8 weeks to credit my credit card the money they owe me, which takes 1 minute to do, but they get to sit on the interest this way and make more money for ripping me off...
The actual problems with the car by the way were shift fork in the transmission had the plastic teeth broken off it from the factory hurst shifter over-extending, and the differential clutch was worn and not engaging the posi at all times. With 52000 miles on the car I think these are valid claims to be fixed
My advise to ANYONE is that if you are looking into a warranty or considering buying warranty gold, DO NOT! Anything powertrain or engine related will not be covered and they will take the usual warranty sidestep and point the finger at you! I have more proof and similar stories from co-workers and friends if you want more!
My email address is Mike@azpowerandsound.com and im happy to give any more proof you would like just to show that this is not a "kid races his street car and lies" story!

That sucks man, sorry to hear about that. You've got to beware of some of these shady operations. When my dad bought his new truck, the salesman urged him to buy this special paint protection package guaranteed for the life of his truck for $700 and they reapply it every year, he said alright. They applied this junk on his truck once and were never heard from again.
Sometimes when a dealership offers to sell you a warranty, it's strictly to make money. If people don't buy their warranties and their used cars turn out to be P.O.S.s, it will make the dealership look bad, so they get the best cars, make sure they're top-notch and won't need work for a long time, and hope to recoup the money they spent prepping that used car from the buyer by urging him to buy a warranty, because they know the car is fine.
I was pressured to buy a $1,500 warranty from the dealership, but I knew about all this and declined, and my car has been nothing short of perfect since I bought it.

They had a really good sales pitch... in writing said plainly "we supply a credit card on the spot for repairs to ANY ASE certified mechanic!" so in my world that means as it says. I can see maybe 2 days to do an inspection... but over a freakin week? Thats rediculous. They are just sitting on my money collecting interest! Ive had GM get back to me faster than that and they are slow as it gets! Ive even had better luck with my factory warranty. The worst part is the tranny looks flawless inside, which I have pics to prove... no shavings, synchros are perfect, only flaw was the shift fork plastic end links which are common from what I understand to break! I might have accepted my fault if it wasnt for my mechanic who was more pissed than I was that they denied me! You would think if you spent $2K with a company to get their best and longest warranty with all the options they may help ya out a bit... in the end I just got shafted for not being able to see a sales pitch. I guess it just seemed too good to be true!
I have a crap warranty I bought for my wifes Grand Am GT. think it is Platnium Warranty Corporation. Anyway, the warranty was cheap $800 and no deductible so I said can't go wrong I guess. The Grand AM is a 1994 and has 30,000 miles so the warranty is good for 100,000. We had the car for 3 months and the intake gasket was leaking water, so I took it in the the GM dealer I deal with and they said it would be around 800+ to fix, because they had the remove a lot of stuff from the motor. The service department called them and got a answering machine, then never a call back, so we called again and got a person. Then they wanted all proof of oil changes and fluid changes we had. Then they agreed to cover the repair, but wouldn't cover the sealer for the front of the intake just the gasket, etc, etc, etc. They told me my check would arrive in less than 2 weeks for the repair. I waited a month and nothing so I called and they had not even sent it yet. Guess they were collecting as much interest they could(probably do this to everyone) I finally recieved the $460 check for what they did cover. Is a pain, but does help at times. Least I will know what to expect next time I need a repair.

The BBB is about worthless.. They dont help you get satisfaction at all.. Just let you file a greivance.
I would suggest that you and your co-workers get together and look into a joint lawsuit. Look over your initial paperwork for the warranty. Does it state a period for your cancellation to be credited. If not, then you may have grounds unless they will credit the full prorated amount from the date the phone call was made to cancel the policy.
Also, be sure you have talked to their management. Get peoples names. Be as detailed as possible and explain that you are not getting the warranty service that was sold to you.
As for your previous experience, you should of called your bank and got them to credit some of the overdraft fees back to you.
Call your local branch or go in. Get to know someone in there
and often they can hook you up. The bank doesnt want to lose an account over a $30 fee.

The dealership recommended that I buy their Wynne's warranty rather than the GMPP. According to the salesman, "It's just as good as the GMPP, covers all the same things, and is half the cost." So I bought the Wynne's warranty.
When my rear diff pinion bearing failed and trashed the rear, guess what they wouldn't cover.

In general, I would be very suspicous of any extended warantee not offered directly by the carmakers themselves... Its a known fact alot of them simply take the money and fold.. or like any bad insurance agency, they will not want to pay out anything, and when you finalyl do get them to pay out, they'll take as long as they can.

I just hope they dont take their time getting the refund back to me as I have to put the repairs on a credit card now
I've got a Nationwide warrenty that will go into effect in about 4 months when my factory warrenty time expires, Does anyone else have Nationwide, It was $1200 for 6/75,000 and the GM was nearly double and I figured Nationwide was a good insurance company so it was a good Idea, Does anybody have anything to say about them?
I used to sell cars, don't hate me because of that, had to pay student loans some how. Any way, any other warrenty other than a manufactures warrenty is hardly worth the paper it is printed on most of the time. Some factory warrenties aren't that good either if you don't read all the small print. But, usually the only way you are going to see any of your money out of a extended warrenty is to get a manufactures warrenty. Sorry to hear your bad luck. I would take them to court if I were you.
I would take them to court if I were you.
wow, that really belongs in court! i got the extended warrenty from GM and it was alil more expensive and well........... i've gone through 3 rear ends for FREE!!!!!! i'm working on em to put in a new clutch since its only got 30,000 miles on the car and the clutch is slipping really badly (it was bought in march of 2000 so the original factory warrenty is gone). o yeah, they also did the power steering pump and all new belts cause it kept squeeling at 27,000 miles
needless to say we have gottin our money back from this warrenty thing in the last 4 months i've had the car and they even know a 16 yr old drives it(me), put the lid/filter on it and i even have a cutout on it! hope urs turns out good and next time go to that big ole factory to ask for a warrenty

I feel your pain. I bought some sort of "platnium" type coverage and I had that warm and fuzzy feeling inside of 70K bumber to bumper protection.
First claim--Control Module (power window and dash lights failed) Good ol GM Warranty fixed it no questions asked.
Sounds great so far? Well, even though my car was in for an electronic failure, my wonderful "EX" dealership that sold me the car was so impressed with my nitrous oxide system, they decided to put in on thier computer records. And of course, never bothered to tell me. A few weeks later, I stop in because the car has thrown a code (emissions) and it turns out it was nothing. While I look over the service advisors shoulder what do I see
***Drivetrain Warranty Cancelled---Nitrous Oxide Installed***
Not happy. I requested my money back for the extended warranty. I was given the old, "we'll get back to you" and now they wont return my phone calls. $2100 lesson learned. The warranty company has since gone out of business, and I have a better chance of growing udders and giving milk before I ever see a penny of that money.
VERDICT---SAVE YOUR MONEY ON EXTENDED COVERAGE.

I had warranty gold on my 96 GTP, and had >$5K in claims with no hassle from them. I also had them on my 99 TA, but didn't end up needing them at all (I did get a prorated refund when the car sold).
This is the first post I remember seeing that slammed Warranty Gold...
Anyway, I agree that you should take this to the court system if they're still trying to screw you...
good luck,
Shane
