Vortech v-9 g-trim VS patroit heads and cam
sup yall i have a good question for yall. i have the money for eather a supercharger or heads and cam package. i was looking at the aftercooled vortech v-9 g-trim supercharger http://www.motorsporttech.com/fbody_...nduction01.asp
or heads and cam from patirot www.texas-speed.com
thanks for the input.

(my opinion) id go heads/cam first and you can get a really good heads/cam packadge for like 1/4 the price of that supercharger+aftercooler kit... so get heads/cam and save a little more and get the supercharger kit also
that would be baddd ***.
/tek.

the thought of a blower would be sweet. everyone does heads and cam. then you can get heads later on to match the flow that blower will have (6.0 heads which drop compression so you can add more boost)

Blower... 5 grand.
TSP heads and cam ..$2200. Same HP for more than half the price. If you get the 59cc LS-6 head and the 231/237 cam, you should make roughly 450 to the wheels if you have the mods to go with it. Throw in a TNT nitrous kit for $675, you've spent $3000 and will blow the blower car out of the water. Blowers are a lame idea unless you have the money to tinker with all the crap that goes along with them. Beast96Z====>does not like blowers.

They're also a big key to making HUGE power numbers. For more streetable setups in the 400rwhp range, yeah it's not the best investment and a H/C setup is the way to go. But if you're looking to make 600rwhp or more, you will need the added benefits of boost. I honestly think the whole, "you can do this and buy a cheap nitrous kit and be faster" is the easy way out for those who can't afford or are too lazy to put the effort into making a real car. I wouldn't mind a small shot myself, but I'd rather have a fast car, all the time, than only being fast with my nitrous when the bottle isn't empty.

bottles are only to supplement the power you are already making, not make it
i would say go with the blower. it is just easier to get rid off if you ever go to sell your car (you can take off the blower and sell it for stock and then sell the blower). that and if you have a blower, you can buy a h/c package later that will work with the blower to make more hp than you would have with just a h/c package.
my $.02
my $.02
I have to agree that the heads/cam and nitrous setup is hard to beat on price. I think that's why so many people go with it. I doubt it's because there lazy. I also don't think you need boost to make 600RW. The last heads/cam car we dynoed with patriot heads and the 231/237 put down 550+RWHP on a 100 shot. That's not 600RWHP but I guess he could jet-up if he wanted to.
I would go with a heads/cam setup. You will get great power at a great price. If you wanted to go with a supercharger, let me know, Terry can get a set up a set of heads for you that would go well with boost.
I'll make sure and tell Jason(co-owner of Texas Speed) that his 745RW Vette(99FRC) is not a "real" car since that is with a dual stage nitrous setup.
Thanks!
Brian

Sigh... you misconstrewed what I was trying to say. I don't have a problem with nitrous, and if you actually read my post, I even said that I wouldn't mind having a small shot myself. But what I don't like is the ever-increasing trend of people throwing a big shot of juice on relatively stock cars and suddenly thinking they are king of the mountain. I also don't like cars that their main power is totally centered around a modification that is not always constant. That irks me and is not something I would want in my car, it's just my opinion.
I am the type that wants my car to have it's power all the time. I don't want to go for a cruise, and not feel the car's true potential because "the bottle is almost empty and I can't waste any." So many times lately I've seen people say, "just get an exhaust and 150 shot and you'll run 11's y0!" That's lame. So when your bottle is empty you're now back in the 13's. I'm a firm believer in, make the car fast first, then use the nitrous as the cherry on top to complete the package. I would rather make 550rwhp CONSISTENTLY, then making it for 6 passes and then dropping down to 415 because my bottle was empty. I applaud those who take the time to make a car that is fast all the time, and not taking the easy way out by just slapping on a big shot of juice with not much else done... of course, I also applaud those that make big power and use a the juice smartly to make even bigger power.
You don't have to agree with me and I don't really expect you to, that's what opinions are all about.
Oh and by the way, I'm sure Jason has a lot more involved into his Vette to reach that 745rwhp then just a dual stage nitrous setup.

The other day at carteks dyno day a basically stock ls1 made 306hp na and 430hp/530rwtq with 100shot...add in heads, mild cam and LT's and thats easily 550hp to the wheels for less than 3 grand...i want to see any blower or turbo setup for that matter match that...even a TR224 and good heads and headers could lay down over 400 pretty easily na blowers would give you about the same but for an extra 3 grand.
