Very weird Alarm problem
Very weird Alarm problem
On my 99 Z28 im having problems with the keyless entry/theft deterrent car reomte. For the past 3 years my lights flash when I arm the car ..just recently the car beeps its horn twice everytime i arm the car...its not the normal chirp..its the actual horn.
I tried reprogramming the remote and setting it back to a mode that is lights only..and it still doesn't work. I tried 2 different remotes and I even replaced the batteries to no avail.
It doesnt even have an option for the horn to come on...if you want sound the option is a couple of chirps..not beeps.
My horn is loud so I had to pull the fuse on the horn till I can fix this problem since I dont want to wake everyone on my block when coming home late..the horn is really loud.
Has anyone else ever encountered such a weird thing? Anybody know how to correct this problem?
The dealer wants me to bring the car in..but I cant afford to think about the dealer right now..
If anybody can help..i greatly appreciate it guys,..

I dont know what is wrong with it, but if you lock the car by pressing the door lock button on the door, your horn should not honk. Your alarm will still be armed too. I wouldnt drive around with a disabled horn. I wish you were my neighbor, thats all i hear all night is people arming their alarms. It is nice to see there are some considerate people left.
Your factory alarm "beeped", but didn't "honk" when you armed the alarm??
It must either be an option (??) or something that's changed on the new(er) cars, because mine has only ever "honked" the horn twice when I arm the alarm (with the remote). "BSMITH" is right though --- use the PDL button to lock the doors and "arm the alarm" and all it does then is flash the lights, but it doesn't sound the horn (or beeper?!).

You may have already done this. Sorry if it's redundant.
Go to the "feature customization" section of your instruction manual. It shows you how to program the body control module (BCM). This includes alarm functions. Mine is set up for aural with keypad, silent with PDL. You might find what you need there. It also might be an indication that the BCM is malfunctioning.
My alarm malfunction was a shorted out shock sensor. The alarm would go off 4 seconds after arming. I disarmed the shock sensor until it was fixxed, under warrantly.

Thanks guys for the very fast responses..like ususal..this forum is great.
Even when I arm the car from just locking the door locks on the door...the horn still sounds...the horn is not suppose to sound at all except for couple of chirps if its programmed to chirp..
Im going to check out this BCM and read a little about it...not sure what it is....but either way im trying to avoid the dealer..
thanks again guys for the quick responses..

The same thing happend to me on my '96 V-6. I finally had to stop using the alarm and locked it manually. Took it to a dealer, and he said it was working right.
The lazy bastage didn't want to fix it. (yes, I told GM about it.) I should have persued it better, but I was working 14 hour shifts at the time. One thing did work; I had it hooked up to a diagnostic machine at Auto Zone. It worked right for a few months, and then it started acting up again.
Good luck!
