Re: unusually slow track times?

so since apparently the MAF only helps if you are running rich, how can i get my car to run richer, so my MAF will help? that is right, correct? the maf makes it run lean so the car recalibrates and goes slower? meaning that it could be corrected by making it run richer?

someone said that i would probably be fine with it even with a head/cam swap... i'm planning on going really large, would it still not make a difference? if i get a really good tune on it, would the MAF help, or is it still a silly thing to buy? this is one mod i should have researched a bit more before i bought, apparently... about how much horsepower do you think i am losing by running a MAF? if it's only 5 horsepower or so, i'll probably save the money for the head/cam swap....

How much horsepower? ... I tried one on a dyno and lost 20 rwhp, tried another brand at the track and lost 3 tenths ... so you could be losing as much as 30 rwhp with a MAF.

Understand what the MAF does ... it is a measuring device. A specific air flow provides specific data to the PCM. That data in conjunction with the data from the AIT, TB and feedback for the O2 sensors, gives the the PCM the ability to control the fuel.

Screw with the MAF and your input data is no longer accurate. GIGO ...

Re: unusually slow track times?

I ran a 13.149 at 107.88 with a 2.054 60' on bad street tires, with only mods being a lid and catback. I would at first think something was up, but I saw LS1's running high 13's that night with a few mods... On the flip side there were a few running good.. I think a tune may help...

An AM MAF is a problem ... you can't tune it out. The input data is innaccurate ... The tune will only be accurate on days when there are the exact same conditions as the day you tuned ... and more than likely you still won't be making the maximum power the car is capable of with an accurate - read stock - MAF.

A lot of tuners don't even want to mess with a car with an AM MAF. Because they know it's problem and the client will come back on them and bitch about the tune.

Look at the problems your having now with an AM MAF and the Hypertech tune.

Re: unusually slow track times?

alrighty, dynoed it yesterday with the mobile dyno at the car show. at first i got 306/318 but it was running waaay too lean, so i took off the hypertech power programming and ran it again and got 296/332 and it was running safely... so i lost 10 hp but gained 20 torque.... still didn't dyno as high as i was hoping... but i think with my MAF issues and the fact that apparently the dyno was a little off (my friend with a nitrous TA was a little pissed) i'm ok with what i got.... how much should that extra torque help in the quarter? and does anyone want to sell me their stock MAF?

Call a local junk/salvage yard and they should have a TON of them ! If i'm not mistaken the 5.3 and 6.0 trucks use the same MAF as us so there are plenty out there. Once you get that back to stock you can tinker with the Hypertech because it can do some good for us A4 guys....good luck!!

Re: unusually slow track times?

Yea bro something has to be very wrong here. I dont know a WHOLE lot about ls1's but I thought i would compare it to my car. I have an LT1 and I only run about 2-3 tenths slower and I dont even have longtubes and my stall is only a 2600 restalled stocker, I also only have 2.73 gears. I would get it looked at buddy. We dont want u losin to a ricer and havin him thinking he is god.
