unplug Low Coolant Sensor...trip SES?

my coolant sensor light was going on even though things were fine.

this happened on my LT1 and all i had to do was unplug it and it stopped going on.

tried this on my LS1 and my SES light has been on constantly...even though i've cleared the computer twice...

does the unplugging thing not work?

Unplugging the sensor on my '95 caused no problems, but I'd like to know also in case I need to unplug my '99. I'm sure someone here can assist with this issue...........anyone?

Where is your coolant light? I dont have one light up when I turn the key on and I dont see one in the owners manual where it shows all the guages and dash lights. If you have a coolant light I dont think it would light a ses light.

I was gonna unplug my coolant sensor but couldn't find that either

Your not talking about the washer fluid are you?

well maybe it is the washer fluid....but that's full too

the light is a small red box, with an arrow pointing down inside it. it is just in the upper left quadrant of the tach...about where the 10 would be on a clock face.

the low coolant sensor is on the back side of the radiator, about 6" below the fill cap...small plug.

at least i think that's the sensor...that's where it was on my lt1...man now that i think of it could that be a temp sensor?

Lightbulb Nope - no SES light.

My buddy here (Silver SS Guy ) had a M6 '99 NBM SS.

He had the same fun w/ the light, and got fed up & unplugged it.

No More Lights after that !

Stupid azz light, anyway - although have any of you looked in your coolant reserve tank ?

Dex Cool does weird things over time - the dipstick on mine, and pretty much all the others I have seen, gets coated w/ a substance that looks like pollen.

Weird.

At any rate, I'd venture to guess that this goo coats the sensors, making it read funny , giving the light - and, this may cause my car's stubborness going into lock up during cold weather.

The lockup, BTW, is controlled by the coolant temp sensor located on the driver's side of the block - ala the smalblocks of old.

I believe that unplugging that one would probbaly cause a SES light, however.

well i unplugged it...but from then on (or so it seems) i've had the SES light on constantly...i've even cleared the computer by pulling the battery cable.

it comes on immediately on startup.

now i do have an ORP and i have sims in although i think they may be malfunctioning...but before i could drive around most of the day without the SES coming on due to the sims....so i can't figure out what is causing it to light immediately on startup.

yeah that would be all well and good but did ya see where i live?

<------------------

closest Autozone is 64miles away, and the driving time for that is 1.5-2 hours on an average traffic day...not what i would call FREE

beleive me...i've thought of that...

i actually just broke down and ordered a cable so that i can connect it to my laptop...gonna look for some free scanning programs.

Let us know if you find any and if they are any good.
Also, how much was the cable and where you got it.
