Twin Turbo vs. Single Turbo
Remember supertuner TV?? there was a program of a 1000RWHP Supra with all tubular cage and all that stuff and they expected a low 10s car??? WTF????
That is what I think of supras.. need 1000HP to do what you can do with 650 on a V8.
2 twins will spool quicker than a bigger single.. Or at least that seems so... the smaller it is, the more efficient and although you are using only 4 cylinders for turbine instead of 8 for one big, I think the smaller howsing is still more efficient than the bigger one and therefore spools quicker... Dont quote me on it ... its how I "feel" it or understand it... or assimilated.

The reason why alot of the supra guys switch to a big single, is their factory twin setup was very limited. Those two turbos worked in conjunction, one feeding the other. This was easy to max out. A big single is the cheapest most suitable upgrade for them.
As far as twins spooling faster than a big single, this is GENERALLY true. It is harder to spool a 700hp capable turbo than it is two 350hp capable turbos. So if you have a combo and build for your particular level, twins will spool faster. But on your big V8s, spool would be the last thing that I would worry about. My little 3.8 is running a pt70 with a 3500 stall, all I can say is that the car is VERY dangerous on the streets. Almost no lag at all!!! And low 10s capable with some added traction.
Efficiency is also dependent on your goals. Smaller turbos are not more efficient. Every turbo has an efficiency range, once you get out of that range, its time for a bigger, or smaller turbo. If you are ringing a small turbo up to 35psi to get your desired results, then you need to step up to a larger turbo, and turn the boost back down to a more feasible and efficient level. Most smaller turbos are efficient anywhere from 10 to 26psi and some larger ones can be efficient from 15 all the way to 40psi, it just depends on how fast you want to go and what your car can handle. Just my 2 cents
