Post Turn down tips

I have a really dumb question... what are they are would they make my car sound louder? I am thinking they are just what they say tips turned down so they exhaust hits the ground. That wouldn't make it louder though? would it?

I have turndowns at the end of my dual exhaust and it rumbles real nice. its alot deeper than a normal exhaust because of it resonating against the ground and it sounds great at cruise/WOT speeds because of the same reasons. I believe it does make it louder by alot but mostly makes the tone alot deeper.

dump them right over the rear axle. It will be legal and it keeps you from seeing the nasty pipe from behind the car

Sounds pretty dumb to me. Funny how what's old is new again, just recycled crap. My buddy has an older vette 76' and it came stock with exhaust that is "turned-down" looks like crap, blows sand out of the way when driving thru a parking lot, basically retarded.

recycled crap?WTF you talking about? How about exhaust systems that come out the back? is that a new car "thing"? LOL...blows sand out the back...lmao....so ****ing what man, try running a true dual exhaust out the back for example and see how much fun that is on an fbody 4th gen.....turn downs sound great...email me if you want a vid to hear what my car sounds like The looks thing is a personal taste matter, IMO I think it looks good, look around online and see one for yourself speedy dragon ,and decide for yourself.

it might sound louder to you in the car, but will it sound louder to people outside the car? Pointing them down to teh ground might increase the soundwaves being reflected off the ground and back up into your car.

My tips extend slightly past the bumper straight out. Inside the car, its relatively quiet(barely). Outside you definantly hear more a rumble.. When I pass by walls, trucks, other cars it sounds ALOT louder inside because teh soudnwaves are boucing off objects and back into the car.

I have a really good idea of what it is going to look like... Its not going to cost me much to do and it would cost hardly anything to fix... I am not all that worried...I just want acuatully i like to hear my cam and it sounds like awesome when I am close to a building or something... I want turn downs was going to be my start to have it bounce the sound waves off the ground. Thanx Phat thats what I thought too..

I agree with this. When I installed my SLP LM. I left the tips off for the first day, so the exhaust dumped before the rear bumper -- that was just too loud for me. Adding the tips took the volume down to the 'merely annoying' level, and at times it seems to quiet, until the next tunnel or overpass, where I can clearly hear this thing roar.
