Tune-up time

I'm getting ready to change my plugs & wires,I know there are lots of good brands out there but does anyone know of any particular brand or product I should stay away from ? We all know how much fun some of the plugs are to get to on our LS1's so I don't want to have to do it again sooner than need be due to poor quality.

use ngk tr55 plugs. as far as wires, the stock ones should be ok, unless you want some that look nicer. msd and taylor seem to be the ones people here use.

have fun with the plug change, i had a blast doing it...

You'll be changing the plugs a little more often with a regular non-platinum/iridium plug.
If your mostly stock just get a set of Delco Iridium plugs for it.
They'll cost though not $1 like the NGK's.

Sorry about having to change the plugs...

But I would say use NGK like camaro322hp said.

I had MSD wires in my LT1. They looked really nice and since they are thicker...I *guess* they might have done something...IDK though. I would never gimp out on something as cheap as plugs and wires though.

I agree;
I installed my first set at 100k miles. The mechanic (private shop) said to put back the original GM Platinum plugs. They went 100k so the new set should do the same. I was having NO problems,just want fresh set. I did have a plug wire shorting out.
As stated not cheap, but worth it. Replacing 2 of the plugs really required some contorsing as the were a brute (for better choice of a word) to get out and in.
I would stay with the factory plugs!!
Only my $.02 for whats it worth.

I have used the NGK TR55 plug in an LS1, LT1, and in various other cars, and found it to burn and perform nicely in all of them. I have also used GM plugs. I like those also. Since your waiting to change the plugs for 100K, I would go with this set-up...the factory plugs, w/ brand new GM wires from your dealer, or my favorite and cheapest, www.gmpartsdirect.com. If your looking for better performance the TR55's with some Taylor wires is a great way to go. I have installed this setup on 3 different cars with great results. I generally like to change Tr55's at 10K intervals. I always thought a new plug burned better and gave better performance.

I agree but if it is a driver & your not wanting to put plugs in alot go delco.
I do like the crisp performance of NGK's though, but when they wear you can feel it.

Aren't they good for 100K miles?

Now if ppl have tons of mods and run fast, thats a diferent story

Simple wear is one reason. They might last that long, but it is never a simple on/off. They wear out. If you have the time and money to change them often, I say do so. It never really hurts since it is only 100 dollars every 20 thousand miles.

kool So you suggest new plugs/whires every 20K?

Looks like my car will get its first tune up in a few years, im at 14k right now

From what people say and I have seen...NGK's and most spark plug wires start to go about 20k miles. Only change them that often if you HAVE to have the best ever. I like to do it every 35k miles. At least on my performence car. The beater gets em 75k.

i'm holding out on changing them till i put it on the jug.... the colder plugs are sitting out in the garage waiting for that day lol

thats when i'll change em once or twice a year

Some of friends change them when they do oil changes! Thats every 3-4K miles. Considering they are only a $1.69 a piece, and they car can run much better. They might do this because they are on the juice. I like to stick w/ 5-10K 10K is the max.

Mine's a daily driver,back & forth to work & short trips,only log about 6000 - 7000 mi a year on it but I noticed gas milage fall off just a bit so I figured time for plugs, & wires too as long as I'm there anyway.Sounds like platinum or iridium is the way to go for me with the upgraded wires.I wouldn't wait 100,000 mi unless MAYBE it was all highway driving.Thanks to all & Happy New Year !
