Tune Up?

Just got a new Walbro fuel pump, SLP lid, Hurst short shifter, and some 245/50 Bridgestone Fuzion tires (by the way these tires are AMAZING, and I only paid $89 a pop for em on Tirerack) and some other odds and ends put on my 98 z28 M6. I also have a magnaflow cat back on its way. It just hit 60k. Tune up? If so, should I change everything (dist. cap)? What wires and plugs would you recommend? I always used Bosch plat4's, and plain bosch wires on my other cars. But if I am going to do it right I want GOOD ones. ?????? What should I get and do???????????

Re: Tune Up?

You do not have a distributor, the LS1 is DIS (Distributorless Ignition System), so no cap nor rotor to replace. It is a coil on plug design. The wires the majority use are Taylor or MSD, I prefer the GM Performance Parts ones myself. The platnium+4s are not a good idea, stick with NGKs or Delcos.

Re: Tune Up?

You won't find a distributor anywhere on an LS1, unless somebody got bored and somehow swapped one in. You could check the coils, but I doubt those have gone out on you

Get rid of those Bosch plugs and go with some NGKs. Get some TR55s, unless you plan on spraying, get some TR6s in that case. Stock wires hold on to life for a long time, but if you wanted to change them I would reccomend the MSD ones

Check the fuel filter, it likes to clog up after a while, and if you're on the stock one it would be a good idea to change. Takes about 15 minutes going slow

How are your window motors (given you have power windows) working? Could replace those if they are dying on you

Battery giving good voltage? Optima makes a very good battery if yours is about to kick the bucket

Car making any noises that it didn't use to?

Re: Tune Up?

i agree with the plug reccomendations. why spend $8-10 per plug for no added benefit?
you can get the NGKs for $2 each and they are just as good. some say they don't last as long, but for 1/4 the cost i don't mind changing them more often.

i would say maybe run some seafoam through the engine, to clean up the inside of the engine, as well as some in the fuel to clean that.

i know some say they are a bad idea, but i used some oil flush on my car last year. i was trying to determine if i had a clogged lifter...thats why i tried.

but i did it 2 times, and later on when i pulled the car apart the inside of the valve covers and tops of the heads were clean as a whistle.

Re: Tune Up?

Run a bottle of STP or Techron fuel injector/system cleaner.

Re: Tune Up?

Run some SeaFoam per directions through an available vacuum line...and never never never put +4 plugs in anything....absolute garbage
