True duals...help and opinons wanted.
Ok this can help you LS1 guys too so dont just no post cuz i aman lt1 guy.
I am putting on my hooker LTs soon but first i want to design a true dual system. I am planning on running 2 2.5'' pipes all the way back(try to tuck up in the drive shaft tunnel) over the axel for a rear exit. I chose 2.5 inches becuase to my knowlage, you cant get two 3 inch pipes over with out getting crushed by the PHR.
But here is where i want opinons.
What kind of rear exit should i go with?? currently i have the stock look SLP TOTL. I like it alot, but i get alot of people saying i should get dual exhaust or a hidden exit. right now with out hearing anyones opinons, i was thinking of taking the tips on my TOTL, cutting them up and putting one on each side. i like this idea because i really dont care for the big 3+ inchers some ppl do, the 2¼'' would also be quieter and look more like the 60s style camaros. also it is pretty decrete, whitch i like.
opinon 2. mufflers
Ok, what do you guys like? I want a very high flowing muffler, but* i want it reltively queit. no loudmouth or bullets.
right now i have a flowmaster 40 series 2 chamerd muffler and it is hella loud. to put in in perspective, when my car was dyoned, it was not only louder then LS1ed loudmouth cars, but more like and LS1 with a cut out. This is good, but it gets old.
here is a list of mufflers i can think of:
1. Magnaflow race mufflers(round like the bullet, but supositly quieter) http://www.jegs.com/photos/64214161.jpg
2. dynomax.... same as magnaflow???
3. summit???...summit says they are good??
4.hooker
5. slp??? dont know, but maybe a totl muffler with on exit block off
6 borla,
7 flowmaster
or other
anybody have much experience with these??? let me know please
anyother issue is where to put them. ground clearance is an issure with me, I have heard of ppl banging in the rear seat and monting mufflers there....i use my rear seat, so i dont think thats a big option.
if i went a TOTL exit, i could put 2 magnaflows or dynomaxes there side by side.
the only other thing i can think of is running 1 mufler with 2 inlets and two outlets, but that defeats the whole point of true duals.
last thing, would you run and x pipe?
thanx guys, im sure this later on with help other trying to do the same thing.

I have pretty much that exact setup. You should be able to find enough room to mount the mufflers behind the rear axle, there is plenty of room there. I personally went with no mufflers. You said you wanted it relatively quiet, so that's not really an option for you.
So, you will have to run the pipes together down the length of the driveshaft and over the rear axle (mine is under the axle) and run them to wherever you want the tips to be. As far as the look, I went with oval tips, similair to the tips on the GMMG chambered exhaust.
Good luck
