Unhappy TRUE Dual exhaust on Z28??

  • Would I be out of my mind to consider putting long-tube headers and true dual exhaust on my car (2002 Z28) one day??
  • Has anyone with an LS1 done this before??
  • I realize that there are 4 O2 sensors from the factory --- could fittings not be made up in the headers/pipes before and after the cat's to accommodate them and not mess with the computer???

If anyone has done this, I'd love to see pictures, and find out some details on cost, complications, and overall satisfaction with your true dual setup. Please, no flames such as "it's not worth it" or "what's the point" --- IMO, it would free up a lot of horsepower, it would sound better, and it would be "different".

TIA.

As far as more power look at the post i made in this thread:
http://web.camaross.com/bb/Forum1/HTML/104481.html
It has dyno results of a normal aftermarket system and then the true dual setup. It shows a peak of 12rwhp and 21rwtq, so it is worth it in my book.

For more info on the setups look here:

I've been talking to PhatT/A from here, and he has an LS1 with hooker long tubes and true dual exhaust. Try doing a search for him.

He said something about on LS1.com, in the Tech Section, there is a guy who sells duals for F-bodies for around $350. Do a search for "Mr. Gas".

.........and when I get some more money, I'll be doing long tubes and duals.

I'm not planning on it yet.......but probably before next summer --- I just got the car, so I've gotta give it a while with all the original stuff before building the car all MY WAY!!!!

Definitely interested!!! If it's anything like Ken's sound clip, I'm gonna start itching for a new exhaust real soon!

That's the one thing I miss from my old '81 Z28 - the throaty dual exhaust (and louder than factory mufflers! ). The torque of the 383 was amazing too --- I'd love to still have that car to race against my new one - that would be one hell of a good race!! The '81 was good for 13.5's, and that was with 3.42's, factory stall speed, and street tires (and an amp and sub in the trunk!). A stock 2002 with 2.73's??? It would be close.

Oh well, the new car is much nicer all-around, and one day - once I can save up enough pennies - I'll have it built into a nice 12.xx second, daily-driven, "street sleeper". That's my "realistic" goal anyways!

But for now, I guess I'll have to "settle" on a real quiet sleeper!
