tranny/clutch problems

1999 Z28, stock clutch 51k miles

Recently, my 4th gear synchros just went bad for whatever reason. Hadn't gotten on it in 2 weeks, just woke up one morning and bam.

After the installation of some new goodies, I decide to let her loose. Ok, it's sweet. I get out of it in the middle of 4th gear and put it in 5th to help slow down. Finally, I put it in neutral and there is quite a bit of shaking from the shifter.

Get to a light and I don't have 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear. After putting it into R, 1st-2nd work again, 3rd is still gone. I can't move the shifter over to the left side of the shift box area unless it's in neutral, with the clutch engaged, it won't go over to the 1st/2nd area.

I like to think I know a decent bit about these cars, but I don't know much about clutches/trannies, I'm still learning. This sound like my tranny needs a rebuild?

It could be the syncosare bad, or if your lucky, it could be that the clutch is not fully disengaging linning up the syncros properly.

in what way were u having trouble with 4th gear? at 54k my 4th gear was acting up, wouldn't shift into 4th when I got on it. For me, shift forks were bad and had to have lots of other stuff replaced on my tranny. Hope yours is just clutch alignment or syncros. Good Luck
