traction control

My friend has a 99 trans am an he can't lower it form 14s. it has a traction control switch but it doesn't work. If he would fix it would it help? Does anybody have any tips on how take off. the first time at the track it ran 18s then I lowered it to 15s and he got it down to 14s but it stayed there.

That was his first race and he was very nervous he had trouble getting on the line. then when the light truned green he floored it. he didn't get any traction for like half of the quater mile. then his next try he got 14s. he has alot of trouble with traction.

Driving practice would help him more than anything. I launched one day with traction control and got a 14.0 (hot day, no trac, first time at track go easy on me ), without it i got 13.8. You can do better with just your foot, I'd get it fixed.

BTW, what RPM's are you guys launching at? I can't seem to get traction at anything higher than 1,400ish.

in the center of your dash, next to your foglight switch labeled 'asr'.

I went to the track for the first time this weekend. I was at about 1700 RPMs and my traction sucked. I was still spinning half way through it.

I launch under 1500 rpms on street tires (RSA's) and 3-3500 on BFG DR's...on the streeties I can get 2.1 short times on them, but the DR's have been good for a few low 1.9's so far
