torn between mids and lt's

I had tpis lt's on my lt1 and loved them. only problem was that i couldnt lower the car because of the y-pipe (header flanges tucked perfectly) i loved the sound the lt's made but with my ls1 im really wanting to do some more appearance modifications, including lowering the car.

anyone have the differences in clearance from one set of lt's to the next for an ls1? more specifically, anyone have pics?

you'll lose a minimum amount of power by going with mids over the LTs.

if you wanna lower it....do the mids.

Re: torn between mids and lt's

what other mods are you planning on? Unless your planning on some extreme setup (blown, N20) mids will get you by so you can lower your car also. Usally on a heads/cam car we've seen around 20hp or so in loss of power.......

Re: torn between mids and lt's

im wanting full exhaust (lt's/mids into 2.5" duals), eventually gears (3.73), possibly a stall (3200), suspension...overall best ride quality while having some nice performance to back it up. i also may eventually look into a nice cam that performs well on stock heads.

are there any side-by-side comparisons with mids vs lts with an ls1? i saw one or two for the lt1's but was curious to see how close they perform on an ls1.

Re: torn between mids and lt's

i would go with the mid length's if all you are going to do is a cam and some other bolt-on's. By the way a cam the works good with stock heads is the cheatr cam from thunder racing, im going to get that one soon because with a completly stock car they said it put down good power and is also emissions friendly

You're saying long tubes get you 20 extra horsepower over longtubes on a H/C car?

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to dissagree on this one. It goes against the laws of physics to get that much extra power from the exact same tubes just a few inches longer.

Horsepower at peak RPM will be very similar when comparing LTs and mids.

Re: torn between mids and lt's

Ive researched this quite a bit and saw that mids pull about the same hp at peak rpm's (as stated above) when compared to lt's, but how much of a difference will there be everywhere else on the power band?

Perhaps around 20 ft-lbs at or below torque peak (losses will be a function of your power level). I feel it's worth it to run long tubes unless you're limited in some aspect. If you're not certainly get the long tubes. A long tube header equipped car will be faster than a midlength car.

It's just that they make the same RWHP. There is no 20hp advantage with long tubes.

You'll make more torque with a longer header.

Re: torn between mids and lt's

the one and only reason im thinking of going with mids is 'cause i really want to lower my car. i just need to decide whether or not its that important...
