Question Too much oil pressure???

Ok, this might be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway.....

The oil pressure on my 2001 SS (25,000 miles) always used to be consistent - needle at half-way mark when idling and midway between half and three quarters when driving (even at 4000+ rpm)

Following my last oil change (500 miles ago) I've noticed that the oild pressure has increased a lot. When I'm at 4000+ rpm the needle gets to about 80%-90% of the way up the guage.

I have the oil and filter changed regularly around every 6000 miles and always use Mobil 1.

Is this kind of oil pressure ok? Could there be an engine problem (no SES light showing)? Any ideas?

Thanks

Gary

wouldnt worry about it. when im up in the RPM, my oil pressure increases, as so do others.

Talking Me Likie Oil Pressure !

For the most part, the more, the merrier !

If it got too excessive - say 80 - 100 psi constantly - you might run the risk of a gasket weeping/blowing, but I would not be too worried about that happening.

Did they switch oil weights on ya ?

My '99 SS runs about 30 - 35 psi at idle hot, and 45 - 50 psi running down the road, although it will sometimes jump up higher when romping on it.

ELS1 -

what part of Houston are ya in ?

I'm on the Southwest side, but I work on the Northwest side.

Later !

According to the manual, between 20 and 80 psi is okay. Mine is normally at around 50 when idling and normal driving. When I give it some gas it will go to about 65 at the most. My dads truck, GMC Sierra, it has the oil pressure spiked to 80 all the time, it has the same gauge as our cars. In his manual it says this is normal.
