Question Too low for Hooker LT's?

Hey all,

I have a 99 TA that I have a chance to put some Hooker longtubes on, for a very good price and help of some good friends.

Here is my dilema, the TA was lowered with DMS springs, and it is very
low. It went down 2.5" in the front, and 2" in the rear. To give an idea: If you used a nutdriver to remove the bolts to change the signal light bulb, the nutdriver touches the bolt and ground at the same time

I just don't know how low it would be, and I would NOT want the headers to drag. I thought I would ask here, b/c I am sure many of you have been through this. I haven't seen LT's underneath an LS1 yet.

Thanks!

Re: Too low for Hooker LT's?

LT's under an LS1 are MUCH worse than they are on an LT1. I have the pro kit on my car, which is nothing near what you have, and with my hooker Y pipe I have 2.5 inches of ground clearance. With that drop, I'd strongly recommend against going the LT route, as mid-lengths have much better clearance and are producing great numbers on the street, even better than LT's sometimes.

on my 99, the headers are not the lowest part...it's the Ypipe that is low.

i think lowered that much would cause ALOT of headaches when driving

Re: Too low for Hooker LT's?

Thanks for the insight guys. I just had/have a really good chance at some longtubes. Install and tubes w/ y-pipe, etc. for $350! But, as usual, anything too good to be true, usually is!

If there are any more opinions, I would love to hear them!!

THANKS!

I have one! Get different springs and do the LT's...more power, and you still have a lowered ride.

Re: Too low for Hooker LT's?

I've never seen anyone make more power with mid-lengths than longtubes - all other things equal.

BUT, if you really want to keep your car that low, then I'd go with some mid-lengths for the additional ground clearance... Like people mentioned, the y-pipe will still probably be the lowest part, but the LTs hang pretty far down...

good luck!

Re: Too low for Hooker LT's?

I've witnessed it several times on the dyno. The midlengths made more average power and the longtubes made more peak power. Peak power doesnt make faster ET's.

My lowest point is the deeper transmission pan i put in. That suckers gonna get f'd up before my LTs do!

Re: Too low for Hooker LT's?

Two experiences I'll share:
I have a Eibach Prokit and Hooker LTs. The car is low, but I have yet to rub anything.
I think the above poster may be mistaken about mids versus LTs. I had MACs before and they made great power, especially up top, but my Hookers make more power all through the dyno graph.

LOL my cats and y-pipe are also the lowest, but these SLP headers hang WAY low. I've got like 5" of ground clearance and I'm at stock ride height. really have to watch out for pot holes and speed bumps. Even some driveways are hell on the ol' headers. With me in the driver's seat, and a passenger, it's tricky not scraping. with a 2.5" drop, I'd have to suggest against long tubes. Try the bassani mid-lengths.
