Tire Brand?

What is your personal preference on tires? looking for good sticky tires for everyday driving, also good in the rain and descent for minimal street racing. I am not looking for a drag radial, but more of a street tire that fulfills the above. I am thinking of Nittos 555 extremes all around, BFG's or Goodyear's F1. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

"The best tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them".

Expensive, but they are my favorites....

Goodyears are great tires fresh off the rack, but michelins stay soft a lot longer...this doesn't really matter if you're buying a low mileage tire though. just thought I'd ad that.

from what i hear the kdw's are a good tire. how do they compare to firestone sz-50's and bridgestone potenza's on a dry road? wet traction does not matter because the Z only comes out on nice days. i have heard these tires preform quite well also.

Talking

At the expense of sounding inbred, I just put 275/40-17 BFG g-Force KDW tires on 17 x 9 chrome ZR1 Camaro SS wheels on my '99 Z28 M6, and I love them. No rubbing and they handle and grip great, even in the rain.

I think that may have been true at one time, but I don't think that's neccessarily the case any more, except maybe for NASCAR tires.

I'd say currently the Michelin Pilot Sport is the best performance tire sold, but it is quite expensive. The Bridstone Potenza Pole Position S-03 is also a great tire I hear, but isn't sold in the right sizes for most F-body applications. And the BFG KD is supposedly an awesome tire, but it's a dry-weather tire that isn't too good in the rain. The Firestone Firehawk SZ50 also gets good reviews...

Those are a set of Z rated tires for 99 bucks a pop. Or you could order a set from www.VulcanTires.com. If you do so you could get a set of Z rated tires for under $400. The tread pattern on those is nice. But beware of what they list. The largest tire size for your stock rim is a P245. They list a P255 fitting the rim, but i can tell you from experience that their 255 did not fit my rim. So unless you get a set of new rims. 245s is the largest you can go. If you get 17 inch rims. Dont put anything larger than 275 on your Z. The SS has a wider wheel well and can accomodate up to 315 however since you have a Z, 245 for 16 inch rims and 275 for 17s. Hope this helped.
255's will fit and yes that is the widest tire that will fit our stock rims.. have had them.. I perfer the way the 245's look tho.

How do you figure that the SS has a wider wheel well when its the same car?

ok.. now i finished reading this whole thread.. I answered ahead of time.. anyways..
Kumho.. sux.. if you have ever had a real tire you would understand.. I am quite used to Pirelli P Zero and the like.. Those tires are insane.. but the cost is astronomical..

I have found that $ for $ your best bet is a Yokohama tire..
They used to have AVS Intermediates which were super soft and under $100 each.. which translated into a damn good tire for drag, autox or street.. even in the wet.. now when it got to where it was wearing out (about 12K miles) you buy new ones.. which was kewl cause you were on newer tires more often for the same price of the more expensive ones..
The AVS 1000 is the Intermediates replacement.. its even offers more treadwear but keep in mind that the treadwear will translate into a harder rubber so it may not provide the utmost in traction while a drag radial could.. I do not condone or endorse using drag radials as everyday tires so I would say look at Tirerack.com, order the yokohama tires and have them mounted at your local michelin store..

Z, W and Y speed ratings are all about the same when you consider that you will never see their true top speed potential..

Lol, I got a couple of good laughs out of this thread.

IMO, Michelins are the best street tire. I have Michelin Pilot A/S right now and absolutely love them. I dare say they are near as good as drag radials too. Not quite as good, but close.

But, with the performance comes the hefty pricetag.
