Sorry about that. But I was writing about the wheel well and I meant to say wider rim. I guess I typed the wrong thing and didnt catch it.

711's have been replaced by 712. The 712's have a huge middle groove in the middle.

I've been driving them around on the rain, and they are pretty good for a 275 tire. I think when they break loose, they regain traction quicker.. Its controllable if you break loose coming out of a turn if you roll ont he gas a little too quick.

Now the true test is to see how they last for another 20,000 miles!

The .4 *275 yeilds 110 mm in actual tire height above the rim. This is why your 275s do not scrape and the 255s do.
doofus.

did you think about the rim size? the 275s are mounted on a rim that is 1 inch larger in diameter. there are ~2.54 cm in 1 inch.

here's how you directly compare tires/wheels:

length of tire above rim: 255mm*.50=127.5mm=12.75cm
diameter of rim in cm: 16in * 2.54cm=40.64cm
total tire/wheel diameter: 2 * 12.75cm + 40.64cm = 66.14cm

length of tire above rim: 275mm*.40=110mm=11cm
diameter of rim in cm: 17in*2.54cm=43.18cm
total tire/wheel diameter: 2 * 11cm + 43.18cm = 65.18cm

the 255/50/ZR16s are less than 1cm taller in diameter than 275s. which means that they are less than 1/2cm taller on any "side".

as a baseline, here's how the stock badyears add up:

length of tire above rim: 235mm*.55=129.25mm=12.93cm
diameter of rim in cm: 16in*2.54cm=40.64cm
total tire/wheel diameter: 2 * 12.93cm + 40.64cm = 66.5cm

the stock tires are TALLER than either of the other two. hmm, i wonder why they are not rubbing if they are so damn tall...

at least do some simple calculations before acting like you know something.

Thanks for calling me a doofus and proving me right. I took into consideration the inch of the wheel, but as you showed yourself it was still smaller. I didnt think that was necessary to point out as in my calculations it appeared obvious that the difference was greater than an inch. But thank you for pointing it out.

for the price you cant beat bfgoodrich g-force kdw's.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....orce+T%2FA+KDW

I plan on getting a set of 4 285/40yr17's on some einkei winsome 17x9.5's. They are new this year and are a mixture of the comp t/a's and the old g-force's. Comp t/s worked well on my mustang, so i figured i would stick with bfgoodrich. You can get them in that size for 162 dollars a pop from tire rack. The y rating isn't bad b/c i don't plan on going over 190 mph anytime soon. damn good deal i thought for a good name in tires.

hello? did you miss the part about the stock tires? do you even know how small 1/2cm is? that's less than 1/5 of an inch if your inbread mind doesn't understend metric.

i'm betting you flunked 3rd grade math. just go back and reread my post. but this time do it 10x slower so that it can actually sink in...

Well, we now know that morb|d is a math whiz, but it must have come at the expense of grammar. "Inbread"? Would that be white, whole wheat, or natural grain? LMAO

i thought that inbread was a dis that the ricers were using against us. just because our cars have been discontinued, i dont think that its a good idea for us to start picking on each other. maybe we should respect each other simply on the basis that we enjoy the same cars and not cut each other down because some of us need help with tires and others of us don't know about tire sizes.

just to give my input on nittos and DR's... I totalled my car in the rain at 45 mph on yokohama ao32rs(they are a little softer than nittos)...they were great dry tires...i had nittos and they were pretty okay, but i had a friend total a gt mustang in the rain with them. i think you should get a good wide street tire unless you understand what you are getting into...i made the mistake of picking the wrong tire before, and i just thought you might like to know. i have nothing against sticky tires...i think they provide great dry traction, but save your car and get some regular tires...more than a couple of guys have been in my shoes on this board, i know because they told me about their experiences. dont be afraid to spend a little extra money on a better tire, it might save your whole car.

there you go, bfgoodrich g-force kdw's are probably one of the best performance rain tire you can get. they almost perform as well as the g-force kd and perform much better than most in the rain. I have done a crap load of looking and the kdw's are my choice to you.

Thanks, redZ. I have a set of kdw's going on today. It rains a lot here, so some sacrifice of dry traction for wet safety seems a prudent move. I'll let you know if it has an affect on my track times. Probably not this Friday, though, as a deer ran smack into the driver's door of my baby last night on the way home from work. A whole line of cars accerating normally off a traffic lite, and this Bambi (which I never saw) bolts across the road right into me. Glad it only affected the door (which took some major damage, but the guts seem ok).

BTW Morb|d, just trying to keep it light. Inbread vs. inbred - - not flamin' anyone. Let's get this thread back on track

I second that motion. I did a lot of research as well. Can't get better for the price IMO. I skimpt on tires once in my life and I pay more and get more now. Less headaches down the road and may save you or your car in a pinch. Cost me $134 + tax installed/balanced total a tire for the KDW-YR at my local Discount Tire Co. for 245/50/16. I did have to order them in advance, they did not stock that size. I did not get the hazard warranty or any extra stuff (ie. chrom valve stems ) they try and sneak on your ticket if you don't look real close. Later>>>>>
