Thumping or clunking sound from rear!!Please help.

Everytime I floor it from a dead stop I hear this thumping or clunking sound that I have noticed comes from the rear of the car. Right after launch it goes away. I am hoping it is something with the suspension. It only happens when I floor from a dead stop. Sometimes a little from a 20 roll. Other than that the car runs fine. What could it be?

Did you check your tranny mount?

Sounds like a tranny mount to me.

Could be springs too, they clunk and pop everytime I go over a speed bump or hit the brakes real hard.

The slight clunk at 20 is normal for an A4. Slop in the drive train. A clunk from a stop when floored it not exactly normal. Could be the tranny mount. A loose or damaged torque arm would cause wheel hop. I've had the bushings pop, but only when turning and when the car was new. It could also be excessive tranny slop. The first place I would go to is the tranny mount.

When replacing my lower control arms they clunked until I torqued them to spec, much harder than thay needed to be IMO, but the cluncking went away. If its LCA's the clunking will also happen when turning or going over bumbs.
