Is there a difference LT1/LS1?

I know they are both different but both are 346ci (~350ci) and the only difference ive seen is the different intake manifold and possibly a different throttle body. Im plaining on getting a LT1 and building onto it for my 82 firebird im getting. Just really trying to see if i can bolt on the LS6 intake manifold onto the LT1 block, thanx

Dude, there is nothing similar between the LS1 and LT1. The lt1 is nothing more than an old SBC 350 with updated heads, intake, ignition etc... The ls1 is an entirely different animal, nothing will interchange between the two.

there are no similarities in the 2 motors except both are made by GM, no parts cross over at all, the LS1 is a genIII smallblock and a whole new design, the heads are a new design (which makes these cars run so good) and will not bolt on to a old smallblock (LT1).

Nothing about them is the same with the exception of tthe bore spacing. which doesnt mean a thing.

nothing interchanges.

LT1 is a 350
LS1 is a 346
Both are rounded #'s

Ls1's make about 30-50more hp out of the box

  • the only difference ive seen is the different intake manifold and possibly a different throttle body - yeah, they're different, but absolutely not interchangeable.
  • Im plaining on getting a LT1 and building onto it for my 82 firebird im getting - that can be done, and has been done before - ask around a little more.
  • Just really trying to see if i can bolt on the LS6 intake manifold onto the LT1 block - sorry, no can do.
  • thanx - no prob

The LT1 and LS1 are both very good engines - just that the LS1 is the newest and most "advanced" (I guess?! ) V8 that GM has built. HOWEVER, the LT1 has been around for a long time now, and there are lots of them around, as well as aftermarket parts, so it's definitely a good choice. Good luck with your project.
