Are there any cone filter kits for the LS1?

I've never seen a cone cold air intake kit for the LS1. I always assumed that it would be possible to run an mandrel bent pipe with a cone filter on the end down and to the right(looking from the front of the car) like LT1 cold air intake kits have them. I've never seen anything like this on anyone's engine pics. Anyone know if they're available? Also, cant I just get a few mandrel bends and make my own with a k&n on the end? Would seem like it would pick up alot more cold air than the stock placement.

Look at the K&N FIPK and the Volant system. They don't curve down to the bottom of the engine like the LT1, though.

Thanks! The Volant looks awesome, especially the Trans Am one with 2 filters

the LS1 air box location actually picks air up from in front of the radiator, so you actually get a relatively cool stream of air.

if you want a bad *** intake setup, go with any standard lid and buy the SSRA.

it will draw air in from under the nose at slower speeds and actually produce a ram air affect at higher speeds (probaby 100+).

Would the SSRA bolt up fine to a 98+ Trans Am?

You'll need to remove one of the radiator shrouds and I believe cut the bottom of the airbox to put on the SSRA. I just finally put one on my car last week. I already had the Free Ram Air mod done, so I didn't need to do any cutting. I can tell a difference in pick up when rolling. It's a nice mod.
