test drove a mustang gt, ha ha!!

I have always liked the mustang, I only bought my camaro because it was a good deal. I used to own a 91 corvette yellow auto, but traded that in for my camaro two years ago. I miss it greatly, I just miss working on it, the handling, and the TORQUE it had. Before I bought my car I test drove a 1998 cobra, man I wanted it so bad. It had chrome rims, tinted windows, black color, loud great sounding exhaust. But it sold the day I was going to buy it. The camaro is faster and I love the six speed better.

Anyways I was just messing around and test drove a 2002 mustang gt convertible auto.

All I have to say is: WOW nice, NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a piece of crap, it's slow, sits to high, and the hood scoop (which is fake) blocks the view. The interior is cheap looking and feeling. I alway thought the mustang interior was better than camaro, but I was wrong big time. After I got back into my car it was like I was so proud to own a camaro, not to mention the camaro is like a rocket ship compared to the stang. Maybe it was the auto but the stang was slow no power. The dealer told me I should keep my car, that I was crazy to trade a camaro for mustang, and that was a ford dealership too.

Man I love the camaro now. I'll never own a mustang, they may sound good but wait until my sweet thunder dual exhaust!!!!

What kind of mods would I need to beat a stock 03 cobra

the mods I have are in my sig, but adding sweet thunder 2.5 dual out the back.

I can even tell that when I'm in my friend's '95 GT.......his car sits up higher and the "cockpit" doesn't have as much of a sporty feel as my '94 Z28 does.....the dash is farther back and the seats are higher and it just seems more like a normal sedan than a sports car.

I thought maybe they'd changed that by 2002, but I guess not, lol.

It felt like a high power v6, it had no torque down low or high.

I test drove a 98 cobra, thats a different story, it was nice

I'd have to agree. Even LS1 verts are slower than the rest (they're heavier), and Ford autos have always been slugs from the factory.

way to much power lost going through that tranny! My friend has a 02 gt hard top manual, with a few things done to it, and its pretty peppy. She has never raced it against the ls1 though, just lt1.

to answer your question, 03-04 cobras are pretty powerful. You'll need a new rear, but also a heads/cam package OR nitrous OR an S/C OR a turbo.

I test drove an 04 Mach1 and it was quick but I felt claustrophobic.

I think that's what killed the camaro. I know alot of non-car people that have stangs, and one thing they like is that it's got less of a performance attitude. It's almost like it's more "responsible" than a camaro. Ford sells alot of non GT mustangs because of it.

That's exactly what killed the F-body! I've owned about 8 82-01 F-bodies and the 93-02's are not normal car people friendly! Unfortunately GM though it was gonna sell all it's f-bodies to us! Still a great car, but the mustang is both enthusiast and normal people friendly! GM has lots to learn! 01 M6 Z28.

So comparing a modded hard top/t-top car to a bone stock convertible... and you're surprised one is slower?

This is way off. The best times I have seen for an 03 Cobra is 12.9@110 or so. Motor Trend puts it at 13.1 @110mph (linkage: http://motortrend.com/roadtests/coup...et/index3.html ). My `02 Trans Am did that with only a lid and a MAF. My `99 Firehawk did 13.2@109 with just a lid and a cat-back. An "encounter" with one on the street proved I could pull on him (slightly) as early as second gear.
With the mods that the original poster has, he will probably be slightly quicker than an `03 already.
You have to remember the curb weight of the Cobra was all but 3800lbs. My 2002 SS is just under 3400. Quite a difference. Plus you have the parasitic loss of the IRS on the Cobra, having to go through 4 extra U-joints.
As far as the 05`s, expect them to be in the high 12`s. They are going to be all but 3900lb tanks, so 450hp is going to have to move alot of weight! If the original poster has driving skills, he might even be able to handle one of those!

I had a 2000 Mustang GT with a full exhaust kit on it...headers and all.....stilll was so much slower than my '01 SS, absolutely NO comparison at all between the power, handling, and just sheer out fun in the car.

Re: test drove a mustang gt, ha ha!!

I agree with with the guy feeling claustrophobic, I hate almost all mustangs, looks and performance. And as far as the difference between convertalble and hardtop, there both slow, my buddy has a 94 cobra with the 5.0 with a gear and new exaust and after a trip to the track the best he could pull off was a 15.3. His excuse was he spun thru first, after my mods and before some drag radials I spun thru first and second and still ran a 13.2. And the 03 cobras at the track were only running low 13's, so even after a supercharger the musturds arent much faster, throw a supercharger on your Camaro and see what you run And as far as what you need to beat an 03 my other buddy ran a 12.6 with just a 4.11 gear and some mickey thompson drag radials, and then he snaped his driveshaft on the next run but still.
