Temprature sensor on Air Box..

Met a guy with an 00 SS and he said he got an adapter for it because it raises the Timing 2-4 degrees...?

Haven't found one from a performace shop.. Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks!

its just a purpose-built version of the old resistor trick, all you're doing is altering the voltage from the IAT to make the computer think the intake charge is colder and advance timing. i HIGHLY doubt it'll add 4 degrees though. from what i've heard, tricking the IAT through any method is usually good for like 1 degree.

It can add timing and make the motor detonate then the computer pulls the timing back out. It's a huge waste and a wild crapshoot.
If you want to try more timing in your combo take it and get it dyno tuned. Maybe it'll like more timing maybe not.

very good point...a 2000 has a slightly less aggressive timing curve than the 98 (28 degrees stock). if you use 93 octane premium (as opposed to the 91 they sell out west) you can probably get away with more timing, but like Al said, its a crap shoot. put it on a dyno and add timing with Edit.

Re: Temprature sensor on Air Box..

here is an article with actual tests

i have the SLP piece...bought it with a bunch of other stuff for a really good price. it tricks the computer into thinking the air coming in is always 36*.

i have yet to notice any gains. would like to try running it with my scanner hooked up when i get my car running right again.
