Temp guage problem...

I have a 02 SS and the temp. guage stays right at 210 degrees when warm. I'm not sure but I think that the car comes stock with a 180 degree thermostat and if that is the case eithier the guage is off by 30 degrees or I have something else wrong. Is anyone else haveing this problem? Any input on this would be great. Thanks...

Re: Temp guage problem...

It's ok. 99-02 f-bodies have a "dummy" temp guage. Unless the engine coolant temp is pretty low or really high, it will stick around the 210* mark. Stock t-stat is 195 I believe. But, even with the 160* I had in my '99, the guage still read 200~205. If you want to see real ECT, you'll need a scanner of some sort (Autotap, HPTuners, Predator, etc.).

Re: Temp guage problem...

yeah...another one of GMs brilliant ideas to satisfy the masses...

to many people complained about a fluxuating guage...so they made it read the same temp from about 100-240degrees

and i think the LS1 stat is 180 due to the alum block...the LT1 was 195.

i've been throwing around getting a guage pod and installing a REAL temp guage.

I have also been considering a water temp gauge and oil pressure gauge, since i dont trust GM' opiate for the masses technique
