TB Bumpstop Grind mod

Disconnect plug from TPS on opposite side of throttlebody. Pull back the rubber insulation so that you can place (3) small gauge wires in each of the (3) holes. Now you have to connect plug back to TPS but will have (3) wires sticking out. Turn on Ignition keeping wires separated (not touching one another). The 3 wires are for voltage, ground, and variable voltage. You need to hook the two voltmeter leads to two of the three wires. Hook one voltmeter lead to the blue (variable voltage) and the other lead to one of the other two wires. When you have this correct your voltmeter will vary from 0-5 volts when turning throttle blade manually. Now just grind stop and keep checking voltage with throttle held wide open to bumpstop until you reach desired voltage. I went 4.65vdc. Over 4.7 will set code so be conservative near the end. Mine went from about 78 deg. (4.41vdc) to about 90 deg. (4.65vdc) when done. If you have tcs you may have to adjust throttle cable length depending on how far you go with the bumpstop mod. I had to.
I hope this helps!
I ran across this on LS1tech.com, it was submitted by ND4SPD over there. I used a voltmeter and got a reading of 4.28! Went to 4.6 and now the thottle plate appears to open closer to 90 deg. Hard to tell if it's more responsive on the road, my car always feels faster when it's been 3W (washed, waxed, or worked on!)

This mod doesn't seem to get the same press as the other free mods. Any thoughts as to why?

Katman, I have heard a lot of people say they really feel a difference after doing this. I am planing on doing this today on my 02 WS.6. What did you use to it grind it down? Did you have any problems while doing this mod? Any tips you can help me out with?

Thanks....

Zipper, I used a Dremel (well, a knock off Dremel). Be patient and check the voltage often. It took about an hour and I ate up two wheels.

Make sure you know how to adjust your cable tensioners. Once you are done, pressing the pedal all the way down probably won't get you to the stop. Then, when you adjust the tensioner so that it does, the other one probably won't let it fall back to idle. To adjust them (they are the turnbuckle looking critters on the cable sheaths), gently spread the outer clasps, which releases the tension, set the tension, and snap the clips back down all the way.

Good luck!

I did this myself a couple of years ago. There was a wave of guys doing it then, but honestly, there aren't any gains to really be made with this. Maybe 1 or 2 hp by smoothing out the airflow. But every little bit counts to making a better vehicle.
