Red face Taking the 3oth to the track for the first time

Ok guys, on the 19th, I will run the WS6 for the first time!

I only raced the 1/4th once before (yesterday) with my stock Grand Am GT.

Now its time for the big chalenge. Can i get decent times with the 6 speed LS1? I drove stick all my life, but the LS1 is a bit more powerfull And I already have a guy who said he will wip me in the 1/4th with his v6 runnign 14.6.

So can I please get some pointer on how to start, shift and so on. I wanna get good times and i dont want to be enberesed by some v6 guy.

At BEST, what should be the times I can expect from the LS1 with just a 3" Flowmaster cat back?

Thank you guys
I cant wait to run the baby

my car ran stock.. it did it in under 14 sec after just having driven it 80 miles.. so I think that you will have no problem..

Things you NEED..
HELMET - Rules are rules and if you run 13.99 or faster, you need one..

Pants or jeans.. Just no shorts... not allowed..

Things you need to do..
Make sure you have some gas.. You want some weight back there for traction..

Do not do any burnouts... on street tires this does not help and will hurt..
You should spin them for about 3-5 sec at the most.. this clears them of debris..

You definately want to go around the waterbox.. do not roll into it.. the water on the front tires can drip onto the track and make you break traction..
Your car is not going to have any problem spinning the tires.. just dont get carried away with it.. like I stated above. 3-5 most.. then pull forward and stage..

DO NOT LAUNCH AT MORE THAN 2000 rpm.. YOU WILL NOT GO FORWARD.. hehe

For mine I was launching at about 1600ish..

after a couple of runs to get comfy.. let some air out of the back tires.. I never ever go less than 28psi.. but that is just me..
still they are street tires and are not meant to be at less.. especially at speed.

feather the clutch a little out of the hole..
make sure you come straight back for hte 1-2 and just a little to the side for the 2-3 and at the end one quick 3-4 and you are done.. remember 3-4 is a straight pull too..

many people mess up the 2-3... so just be careful...

remeber that your car.. should run 14.0 or better.. no way should you be running 14.6 cause you should trap at 104+mph..

hth

A V6 running 14.6 will beat you??? You'll run better than that even if you botch the launch. My car (see sig) ran 13.6 on a bad day. You should be below 13.5. Show that guy what the LS1 can do.

Buddy of mine with a brand new (800 mile) WS6 just ran. he dumped the clutch too fast, cut a 2.6xx 60' and still ran a 14.2 @102 mph

I ran slower than a 14.6 once.... the next week my tranny was returned to the dealer for an incorrectly cut 3rd gear... my car woulnt go into 3rd at wot, so i shifted 2-4
still ran a 15.0 at 97mph
