Synthetic oils
The reason I change my oil at 2k even with synthetic is it just makes me feel better. Sometimes that car gets driven extremely hard and I like to know it's fresh and clean. At high rpm you should want the best oil you can get. Also I've read even though synthetic doesn't break down it still gets dirty and going 6-7k between changes you should at least change the filter. You don't have to worry about going from one to the other as that is an old myth according to everything I've read. All the synthetics I've seen claim to be compatible with dino oil. Main thing is to keep it clean. With the car I had with 140,000 on it the oil would still look clean at 7-800 miles with hardly any carbon. It just doesn't hurt and only takes 15 minutes start to finish to do. You won't see too many race cars running dino oil. If you drive easy almost all the time I wouldn't be concerned.

As for cleaning the engine, you can always do what the farmers have done, put in a quart of ATF and run the engine for about 10 - 15 minuets and then change the oil..
I use nothing but Amsoil.Since the day i got it new. How many companys can say they can go up to 12k on an oil change with there oil and filters. tells me they believe in there product. I personaly never let mine go that long but good to see if i had to i could.and be within there product guidelines. Check them out at. www.amsoil.com Take Care. Mike...

I waited until 3500 miles to change Mobil 1 once, and everytime I drove it, I was watching the gauges. I guess the oil companies sucessfully brainwashed me into their recomended intervals. I like the peace of mind of using the highest quality things I can get for my car. So regardless of what anyone else says, I will continue to change my synthetics at 3000 mile intervals.
I have never worried about if an oil is "good" for xxx amount of miles. My concern has to do with particles floating around in oil. That is why I change my oil in my car every 3000 miles, I use synthetic but still change it. If you motor has to much particles floating around it will hurt the engine. I think the claim of 12k miles on same oil and filter, is about the same as the claim by k&n of 15hp change with their air filter.

I forgot to reset my change oil light once, and it wound up coming on shortly after I changed it for the second time. (just over 6k after resetting it last). I drive my car very easily, I would be interested to know what mileage yours actually comes on at. Considering how many dyno runs you post about, your car obviously is driven harder than mine.

I often race people that are already coming up on me at 90+ so we run in the 100's for a while.. Gotta love Texas highways! woo hoo! anyways... I drive hard but dont abuse... If it were a race motor, I would have it torn down every weekend (my family used to have a trailered drag car we ran on weekends and its motor would be rebuilt every weekend for the next) But since this is an everyday street car with no mods, why bother?
I too am using AMSOIL oil filters and all.. Just cause its easier to get than others..
