Nope. It's the same screw on type of filter that every other vehicle I've owned uses.

I run synth in my 03 1500hd and my 07 kia. I'm scared to run it in my lt1 because...

Way back in the day, I had a 70 Chevelle with a 406 (gawd, I miss that car ) Anyway, I was always so proud that my old primered hotrod was the only car in the parking lot (apt complex) w/out an oil stain under it (I HATE oil leaks).

One of my homies suggests I run synth, as he gained 1mpg, so I do. W/in 2~3 weeks, my engine starts leaking at the rear main It made me mad enough (and I'm just that ****) that I ended up pulling the motor and putting a new seal in it and went back to conventional oil. No more leaks...

I only started using it again because some of the LSx engines were coming from the factory with synth, so I took the gamble and haven't looked back.

I think a lot of it has to do with the newer, more modern engine designs and seals/gaskets (vs the old school engines and gaskets).

But that's just me

I'd like to run it in my LT1 but, with close to 200k miles and quite a bit of oil film already on it, I'm afraid it'll start marking its territory!!

Synthetic oil brands engineer their product to have 100% of what they believe helps the engine run at peak efficiency(with 0% of harmfull or unnecessary ingredients). The difference in conventional oil in comparison is that it is a crude oil with additives. Sythnetic oil can be used in any engine anytime, because it allows for a smoother running motor. I would not believe or subscribe to theories about,"break in periods" when the oil itself is superior. As previously stated as well, newer cars are recieving factory fill of synthetic. As with any new technology, the cost will be higher at first until the wide acceptance brings demand higher and pushes prices back to a comfortable level.

I used it for a couple of race seasons and found a coating of black sludge in the pan. Not going to use it ever again.

I have used royal purple for a while and race autocross with no problems, tho I have never dropped the pan and looked. That makes me nervous now
I know were talking about oil but has any one ever run royal purple in the trans and/or diff and had problems?

how has Mobil1 changed over the years

5w30. 5.5 quarts, some people just use 6...I always use an AC Delco PF46 filter...cheap and one of the best around...Mobil 1 isnt what it was years ago...Ive used amsoil, mobil 1 extended performance, qhorsepower, and penn. platinum and they have all be good.

Re: Is synthetic oil a MUST

My car has 219,000 miles and I'm the only owner. I started with regular Valvoline 5/30 ran that till 15,000 miles and changed to regular Valvoline 10/30. Started using the 10/30 Valvoline high milage oil at 60,000 miles. I would use 5 quarts Valvoline high milage and 1 quart full Valvoline synthetic. I have thought all along a blend is best but only after you get some miles on the motor. Must be working for me my car has 219,000 miles and running strong. Only issue is its burning some oil at this point. The power is still great, runs very strong

I always run mobil1 full synthetic in mine.....and of course ur car is burning oil and you are lucky it isnt doing worse(never mix full synthetic with conventional oil as they will break each other down).

That is completely untrue. Synthetics & conventional oils will not "break each other down". What do you think a semi-synthetic is? It's a combination of synthetic & conventional oil.
