Synthetic oil

I am about to get my 4th oil change done and was thinking about switching to synthetic oil this time. I noticed a lot of LS1 owners are using it. Should I switch over and if I do, what are the advantages and disadvantages (besides cost ) ?

I have heard that our cars run better on synthetic. I use mobil 1, and since it is supposed to be of high quality it should keep the car healthy.

Mobil 1 claims to have very little wear and tear on the engine when used, I've been using it for about 70K miles, and the car still runs strong, gotta take it to the track and see if it still runs the same since that is the only way to make sure.

I run regular dino oil. Valvoline for me. Synthetic is only advantageous if you run in excess of 5000 miles and I change my oil every 3000 so I dont see the point in wasting my money. I also run the larger filter to get some extra filter surface area. If you want to find out the part #'s for the bigger filter there is a thread that was started today about it. The title is something like filter # and spark plug gap or something like that. BTW sometimes changing oil type on motors with high mileage (in excess of 75k) can sometimes cause oil leaks, so keep that in mind.

Ran amsoil in my car for 15 years or so.Never had an engine failure with it even had some big cooling problems with aluminum head engines and still no problems..Heck drove the car back into town like 5 miles once when blew a rad hose.I know stupid but whatever.

I had one major engine failure and mobile 1 was in that engine at the time.Buy what you want but all my good vehicles run amsoil.

Synthetic is more slippery than conventional oil. Thats about it. If you have an oil leak, don't use it, it'll make the leak worse. That is all....

Yeah, switch over. The only disadvantage besides cost is that there is a chance the car will leak oil because synthetics are thinner. Didn't happen to me when I switched, but it's possible.

I read a article on here not too long ago saying mobil 1 isn't truly synthetic and penzoil synthetic is. So next oil change I am switching to penzoil synthetic.

Actually you don't wanna use Penzoil, it's waxed based so you are basically shoving candles in your motor....does that sound fun?

i use mobil dino 5-30 cause I change my oil every 3 thousand miles. For those that are rich, go ahead and use synth. It just got too expensive for me. And when you make me choose between clean oil and slippery oil, I choose clean oil. I would say don't change to synth unless you live where its really cold. Synth allows the engine to start up better where its really cold.

I use REDLINE 5w30 in my SS and WS6 with a K&N oil filter. The oil pressure increased quite a bit which is good. The better synthetic oils out there will reduce dry starts by coating the metal better.
