swapping computers

can you swap computers from another car of similar type and actually run for a little while?

i have a feeling my ECM has a glitch in it, and was wondering if i could borrow a computer from a friend and see if it runs better.

my car is in the sig, and his would be an 02 SS, same trans etc..

i know the ECM has the vin code in it, does that mean the car wont' run without the proper code?

You'd have to use a 99 puter.

You can but you may have to do a CKS ( crank sensor) relearn and a PCM/BCM relearn. If engine has a lot of misfires then crank sensor has to have that relearn. If it just will not start correctly then the BCM needs to be sync'd to new PCM with a relearn process.

Engine at 1st will not run well but then PCM will relearn and adjust to what it can and after that if that PCM calibration does not suit your engine makeup/mods it will not be running at engines best.

If calibration is close to what yours is then if you can drive it for about 30 miles so PCM gets a good change to readjust and then do a compare as how engine ran on other PCM.
