Super Sucker?

Hi everyone. I'm new to the board here. I just bought a 99 NBM Z28 with a 6 speed. Is the Supersucker a good cold ram air kit? I've read about them a little and want to find more info. Does anybody have pics?

They are the best ram air set up you can buy currently. Check out the sponsers page and ls1 speed inc. Then look at them on thier page under induction for more info/pics.

I will let you know within a week or so. I am currently in contact with the inventor of SS. He and I will be getting together to install it in my 02 Z. From what I have read, it is a must buy.

IMO it is the best cold air system out there.
One word of warning though: They act like a vacuum and are very close to the road. A few folks have hydrolocked their engines driving through large puddles, or during heavy rain.
This is not a mod I would do if I lived somewhere that had an average or better amount of rainfall.
Now if I was someplace like southern Kally or Arizona, for example, I wouldn't hesitate to do this mod.
Just a heads up!
Good luck
Dave

I've driven in rain numerous times. I just don't go through deep water (duh, its a Camaro not a Hummer), and try not to follow other cars to closely.

Just to clarify...
Hydrolock is not common, but it has happened, and wouldn't have if not for the cold air kit.
Just something to think about.
You can avoid it all you like, but if you live somewhere that gets downpours on a regular basis, sooner or later you will get caught in one. I know I have been caught in sudden rain heavy enough to scare the heck out of me, and I just have the FRA mod.

I was looking into the ssra too, and i live in michigan(****tiest weather on the planet), so i have the same concerns as all of you. What about maybe puting metal screen in front of the inlet? That should stop the leaf blowing, and maybe help a little bit on the rain factor. Not the big puddles, but its a start. That, or if you could somehow make a plug to fill in the hole? Ive never seen the kit up close...does it seal off the air box completely? or does it just open up the bottom? Also, i eventually want to go with a procharger, at least a d-1sc, so would that Super sucker ram air still help with that setup with the conical air filters in the relatively same spot as the stock air box? I hate buying things that just delete themselves later on...

Hi everyone. I am the designer and producer of the Super Sucker Ram Air(SSRA). To address the concerns over hydrolock. I'VE NEVER had a problem. This is not to say that it couldn't happen. The easiest way to remedy this is to put something in the system to prevent water ingestion. The easiest probably is to stick something in the mouth. Roll bar padding or a "Noodle"(those long foam things that kids float on in a pool) cut to fit would be the easiest. Next you could cut a piece of cardboard/metal and put it under the filter when it starts to rain. I'm sorry I don't include this. I'm lowering the price to $199. I've made improvements with the "kit". The directions are more detailed with pictures. There is now a cool sticker that says "Super Sucker Ram Air". I'm spending more money on the kit yet I'm dropping the price from $219 to $199.
Like someone else said, don't tailgate anyone when it's raining hard or go through deep water.

Ratio411, It was nice to meet you last summer at Car Craft in St. Paul. Are you going this year?

Asianice25, my websites not up and running yet. I have tons of pictures if you want me to email you some from my computer.

I thought the SSRA was a two-piece setup.?.? If that's the case, why not just leave the lower section off if you're worried about rain (like the FTRA) ??? Then you could use the lower half on cruise nights or track days...

doesn't it ever scrape on the ground? like when comming out of a parking lot that has a litle hill of a bigger curb or anything. i know i scrap in my fron nose cone on the bottom and on the airdam, so i can only imagine this thing would get ripped off or get royally ****ed up. or have you never had this problem?

SS1LE02, can you please email me some pics. Also, do you know if your ram air kit will be rendered useless with a Procharger? I know that it wouldnt be ram air with the blower, but if it was there, i could see it bringing colder air to the intake. Thats always good. Also, if your lowering the price, where can i buy this kit for $199? Thanks man.

Scott
