Stroker or cam/heads

My motor guy is starting on my ls1 rebuild. Iwas going to have the heads milled .030 with a stage 1 port job and a cam .230 .570 lift 110 about. He priced that at 2,700 for everything. But he thinks I should go with a 383 then I can do the h/c later (with the motor in the car) he wants a total of 5200 for that with no head work except valve job. He says it is not worth porting the stock heads he says he can sell me after market heads for 1400 complete he's got me spending more than I want to on the stroker the stroker price includs a cam.Is this price to high.

Thanks

Dan

yes it's high...depending on quality of parts installed make total vary some but 5200 should include those aftermarket heads too imo..is he useing exsisting rods? you should look up prices on summit or jegs. a complete kit for a 383 is 1800.00 plus machine work ( i spent 1200.00) and labor cost..get some motor head friends to help you put it all together( bar-b-que party)

Depending on what your having done...I spent about 5400 on my LT4 383 set up and that included machine work, AFR heads completely assembled with all the goodies, nice cam, Forged pistons, Rods, Crank...etc.

BTW, hell yes, that's too high.

You can get an forged and assembled shortblock for more like $4500 and that's for an LS2 402ci package. Check around.

You won't stroke an LS1 for that.
