Does anybody else's steering wheel shutter back and forth sometimes when they start breaking or at other times?

Re: Steering wheel shutter?

I'm not 100% sure what you are referring too but a lot of the time if the steering vibrates at a particular speed its due to the front wheels/tires being out of balance

a pulsing in the steering wheel during braking is often indicative of warped front brake rotors, which is very common with GM brakes

you also might find a little side to side action in the steering wheel during braking with wide tires on the front

PS - I'm looking at getting SFC's for my car - what did you end up using? What do you think of them?

Re: Steering wheel shutter?

Back when I first got my car steering wheel started shaking when braking, coincidently after I took my car into the dealership.

Basically, its either rotor warping, or probably more like overheating brakes up front, unevenly depositing pad material on the rotors.. causing that pulsating feeling.

I switched over to aftermarket rotors and Hawk HPS pads and never had the problem again.

If its happening at other times besides braking, it may be something else..

Thanks for the helpful hints! All I can say about subframe connectors is get them! They will help your car from rattles in the future. My car was so new and suspension is still tight that putting them on, I didn't notice a bunch of difference except when going over railroad tracks. Get the weld kind too!

Re: Steering wheel shutter?

another Vote for warped Rotors!

----Aftermarket slotted/drilled/dimpled rotors are some of the best money spent!! IMO.... I had them on my cavie and I beat the **** out of those brakes... Tapered pad wear, eh...
